The steps that follow should be taken in action to curb the spread of the

virus :- 1. Maintain at least a 1-metre distance between yourself and

others to reduce your risk of infection when they cough, sneeze or speak.
Maintain an even greater distance between yourself and others when indoors.
The further away, the better. 2. Make wearing a mask a normal part of being
around other people. The appropriate use, storage and cleaning or disposal
are essential to make masks as effective as possible.3. If COVID-19 is
spreading in your community, stay safe by taking some simple precautions,
such as physical distancing, wearing a mask, keeping rooms well ventilated,
avoiding crowds, cleaning your hands, and coughing into a bent elbow or
tissue.

Transmission – 1. Airborne transmission - There are reports from WHO and other
organizations that covid 19 was detected in a few air samples. WHO, together with the
scientific community, has been actively discussing and evaluating whether covid 19
may also spread through air, particularly in indoor settings with poor ventilation.
2. Direct transmission - Transmission of covid 19 can occur through direct, indirect, or
close contact with infected people through infected secretions such as saliva and
respiratory secretions or their respiratory droplets, which are expelled when an
infected person coughs, sneezes, talks or sings.

Importance of matter – Everything we see around us is made up of matter.

Matter is important because it makes up everything around us
and matter cannot be created or destroyed but instead, they just transformed
into a different form. The food that we eat everyday consists atoms as well as
molecules. Therefore, the food are also a kind of matter without which we
cannot survive. The clothes that we wear, all the necessary things like pencil,
brush, utensils all are made of matter. Matter is the basis of all nuclear
reactions.
(ii) Matter is the material required for starting chemical reactions.
(iii) Matter is the basis of life .
(iv) Matter helps to sustain and develop life !
(v) Matter helps in ecology and balance.
(vi) Matter supports energy.
Chemistry against covid - Chemistry is essential at every step of our response to
the virus.Chemistry-based research institutions and companies of all sizes are
refocusing their efforts towards discovering more about the virus, developing
improved testing technologies, and eventually creating a vaccine. Many offer
services or devices that already use cutting-edge chemical science to measure
smaller samples, or achieve higher throughput.
1. Soap - Most viruses consist of three components: the genetic material, some
proteins and a lipid layer. Soap is a surface active agent like the lipids which
make up the protective covering of the virus – only stronger.  It disrupts the
lipid layer and leaves the contents open to the environment
2. Alcohol - Above a certain percentage in a mixture with water, alcohol can
disrupt the lipid layer, but it also denatures the proteins which makes them
ineffective.
