READING
Read the passage carefully.
The grass of Africa is called savanna. There are two savannas in Africa; they are southern
savanna and northern savanna. Nigerian is one of the countries in the northern savanna. It is located
in the north of the equator.
The Nigerian savanna has two seasons like Indonesia. They are rainy season and dry season.
During the rainy season, the rivers are full of water and it makes flood every where. Crops grow
well there because the soils are fertilized. Most Nigerians are farmers. Many of them have cattle, so
people there can earn their lives easily. They can take their crops for their food.
During the dry season, the grass does not grow well. The plants become dry because of the
drought. But it is not a problem for the people because they always keep some of their crops after
harvesting. The problem they get in the dry season is the difficulty to find grass for their cattle.
Most European, American, and some Asian countries have four seasons; they are summer,
autumn, winter, and spring. Summer looks like dry season. Its temperature is so hot so that many
people suffer from it. Summer is also the season when fruit and vegetable grow. Following the hot
summer days on July and August comes autumn. Little by little nature changes. Because the summer
heat, the green leaves of many of the trees get drier and drier, and their color changes from green to
yellow, red, and brown. The wind blows harder and harder, and finally the dry leaves fall to the
earth, leaving the trees with nothing on their branches. Thats why people, especially in the United
States of America, also call it the fall season.
