3000w smps

Here is a photo of a 3K
smps of a Yamaha
amplifier.
You can see clearly at
the bottom of the smps
the input capacitors.
These are rated at 1000uf
each at 200v. The
transformer is an ETD59
running at 65Khz. There
are two main output volt-
ages of 60-0-60 and
another winding in series
with each output of
another 60v. The ampli-
fier works normally on
60v and when there is
need of more power a
mosfet switched by the
amplifier will switch on
the other 60v so the volt-
age will rise to 120v-0-
120v. It is made like this
to avoid dissipation in
the output transistors of
the amp.
The output capacitor
bank is made of 20
1000uf capacitors X 80v

This amp came for

repair and you can see
the 2 output caps that
gone bad marked with
arrows

In the top left of the picture above you can see the
input filter which is a 3 stage one. The input
varistor . Those black circles which are near the
relay are NTC thermistors of 25mm diameter and
are 20 ohms each they are wired in series for a total
of 60ohms. Those are for soft start.

This power supply uses the IR2153D as an

oscillator chip.

The bottom picture shows a close up of the input

capacitors.
