Paper 1: instructions
It is expected the test will take 20 minutes to complete, but it is not strictly timed.

Allow your child a break if you feel they need it at any point.

Your child will need a blue / black pen or a dark pencil. You may allow them to have
a rubber, but if you would rather not, explain to them that they need to cross out any
wrong answer and write the new answer clearly next to it.

Your child is not allowed any other equipment assistance (a calculator, a ruler, number
squares or number lines) during this test.

You must not help your child with any of the questions, but you may read a question out
loud if this helps them.

First, read the practice question out loud to them. Give them some time to write the
answer down.

Tell your child to try to answer all the questions.

They can use the space on the paper for working out.

If they can’t answer a question, it is better to leave it, go on to the next one and then
come back to it later.

There are a total of 25 questions, each worth one mark, on Paper 1.
