Learning Activity #1: Extending My Initial Thoughts

1. To make sense of things – Reflective teaching, will help him/her identify any barriers to
learning that his/her students have. He/she then create lessons which reteach any content
which their students have not been able to access to allow them to overcome any
obstacles and develop. I think in that way things will make sense.
2. To uncover breakthroughs – When reflecting, it should be our honest thoughts. At least
honest about the choices, success, mistakes, and growth. This will serve as a constant
reminder to teachers that instead of overthinking about the things we can’t control, try to
find what they can change and find solutions, and continue working hard to achieve
better results.
3. To challenge your thoughts – Being reflective will allow the teacher to create and
experiment with new ideas, approaches, have a wider range of skills as he/she find new
ways to teach. This will develop their confidence in the classroom as they find the best
ways to deliver the lesson.
4. To recognize change and track progress – Reflection is the key to improvement.
Reflective teaching will help teacher to understand the way they teach. By asking
questions and self-assessment, he/she will understand what their strengths are and any
areas where development might be needed.
5. To increase self-awareness – A teacher reflecting on their teaching will help them to
understand how his/her students best learn and will allow them to be accountable for their
progress. By assessing the strengths and weaknesses in their own teaching, He/she will
develop an awareness of the factors that control and prevent learning.

6. To inspire self-acceptance – By reflecting, he/she will develop abilities to solve
problems. Through questioning and changing the way he/she deliver the lessons, they
will find new solutions and become more flexible with their teaching. It allows him/her to
take time to assess and appreciate their own teaching.
7. To live with more intention – Reflecting will help a teacher improve the quality of
teaching and learning. He/she can take account of students’ various learning styles and
individual needs, and plan new lessons based on these. If he/she can become more aware
of their learners’ preferences, strengths, and weaknesses, his/her teaching becomes more
tailored and equipped. Reflection helps focus on the learning process, so learning
outcomes and results will improve as he/she reflect on how his/her learners are learning.
