 The lake is eutrophic which means there is
not enough oxygen for healthy fish
 Nile perch, large predator fish, were put into
the lake in the 1950s and most native fish
could not survive
 There are large algae blooms (green scum)
that sink to the bottom of the lake, decay,
and use up the oxygen

 Krill are small shrimp-like animals in its
waters that provide food for penguins and
