This document describes 14 observed local interspecific interactions in Brgy. Bagong Buhay, Ormoc City. It provides details of each interaction, including the interacting organisms, type of interaction (parasitism, commensalism, mutualism), and a brief description of how each organism is affected. The interactions involve a variety of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms native to the area.

Interacting Organisms (with photos) Details of Interaction Involved Interaction (+ or -) (+ or -)
Caterpillars are not necessarily
just herbivores, but they mostly feed on plants, flowers, Caterpillar (larvae seeds, and buds. So, in Aglaonema Parasitism of Lepidoptera) identified location, they tend to (+) feed on plants – one which is (+) the Anglaonema – and ruin the leaves of the plants gravely over time. Birds nesting on trees are Santol tree provided with shelter, and (Sandoricum Birds sometimes food, by the tree Commensalism koetjape) (+) itself. On the contrary, the tree (+) is neither being harmed or benefiting from the interaction.
Mother of millions Snails feed on the leaves of the
Snails plant, which damages the plant plant (Kalanchoe Parasitism (Gastropoda) – especially if the snail has daigremontiana) (-) been making it as a source of (+) food for a long time. Orchids that grow on trees neither cause harm nor take water and nutrients from the Mango tree Orchids trees they grow on, since their Commensalism (Mangifera indica) (Orchidaceae) roots stay outside/on the bark. (+) The orchids just use the tree (+) for anchor. On the other hand, trees don’t get anything from the orchids. Ticks are known parasites. Dog (Canis lupus Some diseases are harmful to Ticks (Ixodida) dogs that are tick-borne are Parasitism familiaris) (-) Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, (+) and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF).
Aphids suck the juices of the
Snake plant Aphids plants they feed on. Often (Dracaena (Aphidoidea) times, this parasitism has no Parasitism trifasciata) adverse effect, unless the (-) infestation is bad to the point (+) of the leaves turning yellow. Collectotrichum gloeosporioides is a fungal Anthracnose plant pathogen that causes Mango tree (Collectotrichum rotting of the leaves in mango gloeosporioides) trees and common in tropical Parasitism (Mangifera indica) regions. It attacks the leaves, (+) stems, fruits, shoots, and (-) flowers; and can survive even on dead plants – which is why it easily spread.
Lichens is composed of algae
and fungi, and can be found on the rocks, tree barks and roots – and even soils – in the vicinity of our home. Their interaction happens in a way which the Fungi Algae fungi benefit from the Mutualism relationship because of the (+) (+) organic carbon compounds produced by algae through photosynthesis. On the other hand, the fungi provide protection and habitat or anchor for the algae to grow on. Butterfly Orchids The nectar in the flowers of the (Rhopalocera) (Orchidaceae) orchids serve as food for the Mutualism butterflies. On the other hand, (+) (+) Butterflies help in pollination.
The nectar and pollen in the
flowers of the orchids serve as Orchids food for the bees. On the other Bees (Anthophila) Mutualism (Orchidaceae) hand, bees help in pollination – (+) through the excess pollen that (+) has sticked onto their hairy bodies.
