EPG (Electronic Program Guide)
ABSTRACT:
Recent television trends in India include rapid adoption of digital television. Several
companies like TataSky, Airtel have deployed digital television networks across the country. To
get digital television service, consumer need to buy a STB (Set Top Box) that contains the
hardware needed to receive and process digital television sigals and get the service from one of
the service providers. There will be a monthly charge for each service in addition to the one
time hardware cost for the STB. One of the key features of a digital STB is Electronic Program
Guide.

Electronic Program Guide is an application that stores, retrieves and presents the users
of the digital television a comprehensive list of television programs across the entire channel
line up. The users of the Electronic Program Guide will be able to see what programs are being
broadcast at what time. The data stored in the guide will contain typically a week or two weeks
worth of television program guide data for all the channels. The data includes such detail as
Title of the program, Details of the program, Start Time, End Time, Channel Details etc..etc..
Consumers access the Electronic Program Guide by pressing the "Guide" button on the STB
Remote. Pressing the button displays the current days program and the user will be able to
navigate to vertically and horizontally to view TV Program details for future programs and for
various channels.

This project involves designing and developing a database application that stores the
program guide data and presents a very intuitive User Interface on a PC that provides the same
richness and functionality as a Digital STB. Functionality includes, but not limited, ability to
search for specific programs, set reminders etc..etc..
