Applications / Use Levels

®
ACTICIDE DT is recommended for the protection of damp surfaces and products from fungal and algal
growth. It is particularly suitable for interior and exterior coatings, adhesives, fillers, sealants and similar
®
materials. In addition, ACTICIDE DT may be used for the preparation of primary and secondary wood
preservation formulations, EU/AWPA classes 1, 2, 3 and 4, applied by vacuum impregnation and for tertiary
brush application in stains, varnishes and lasures. Such products may also have insecticidal properties.

For protection of water-based products from bacterial and fungal infection in the wet state the additional use
of one of Thor's wide range of in-can preservatives is recommended.

Optimum use concentrations will depend on the required properties of the product to be protected and the
environment in which it is to be exposed. Normal addition levels are in the range 0.2 - 0.6% for coatings.

The local Thor Microbiological Technical Centre can assist in determining the precise concentration
required for specific applications, especially for wood preservation use.
Method of Use / Compatibility
®
ACTICIDE DT can be added at any stage in the production process but to ensure optimum even dispersion
it is recommended that it be stirred efficiently into the formulation as early as possible during the
manufacturing cycle. Care should be taken to ensure that temperature, pH and redox potential at the point of
addition are suitable for stability of the product. In addition, other substances such as ammonia, primary and
secondary amines and strong oxidising or reducing agents such as hypochlorites, bisulphites, meta-
bisulphites and hydrogen sulphide, can also affect the product's stability.
®
ACTICIDE DT is compatible with most raw materials used in the products in which its use is recommended.
However, users are advised to conduct their own stability tests before initial use or seek specific assistance
from Thor.
