About the Authors

Pietro Beritelli <pietro.beritelli@unisg.ch> is Professor at the Institute


for Systemic Management and Public Governance at the University of
St. Gallen. He is guest lecturer for tourism management in other Swiss
Universities as well as universities in other countries. He has advised tourist
enterprises and public institutions in regard to destination management and

policy. His research interests include cooperative behavior, network govern-


ance and leadership, and business models in destinations.
Marcus Herntrei <herntrei@gmail.com> is Professor at the International
University for Applied Studies Bad Honnef Bonn at Düsseldorf Campus
(IUBH Dual Studies). The work on this book was done while he was work-
ing as a scientific researcher at the Institute for Regional Development and
Location Management at the European Academy of Bozen-Bolzano in
Italy. His recent research focuses on public participation in planning and
developing tourism destinations.
Elisa Innerhofer <elisa.innerhofer@eurac.edu> studied International
Economics and Business Studies at the University of Innsbruck and the
Marquette University. She did her doctoral studies in Economic Science at
the Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and is now a senior researcher
at the Institute for Regional Development and Location Management at
the European Academy of Bozen-Bolzano in Italy. Her research interests
are strategic innovation/product development in hospitality and tourism;
and innovation-relevant resources and competences; and transformation
processes in regional development and culture as a location factor.
Judith Jochmann <judith.j@gmx.de> is Head of Marketing and Culture for
the municipality of Herzogenaurach since 2011. In the years before, she was
research assistant at the Chair of Tourism at the Catholic University
Eichstätt-Ingolstadt under Professor Harald Pechlaner. Her main research
interests are destination management, destination governance, entrepre-
neurship, and culture.
Harald Pechlaner <harald.pechlaner@ku-eichstaett.de> holds a Chair in
Tourism and is Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the Catholic

University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in Germany and is Scientific Director of


the Institute for Regional Development and Location Management at the
European Academy of Bozen/Bolzano in Italy. His main areas of expertise
include destination governance, resort and location management, and
entrepreneurship.
Mike Peters <mike.peters@mci.edu> is Associate Professor in the
Department of Tourism Business Studies at the MCI Management Center
Innsbruck, Austria. He graduated from the School of Management at the
University of Innsbruck and received his doctoral degree in 2001 for investi-
gating the internationalization behavior of small and medium-sized tourism

businesses. His research focuses on the processes of entrepreneurship and


associated problems.
Sabine Pichler <sabine.pichler2@eurac.edu> is a researcher and coordina-
tor at the Institute for Regional Development and Location Management at
the European Academy of Bozen/Bolzano in Italy. She studies for her doc-
torate at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in Germany. Her
main areas of expertise include destination governance and location man-
agement, regional development, entrepreneurship, and family businesses.
Lisa Ruhanen <l.ruhanen@uq.edu.au> is Senior Lecturer at the University
of Queensland, Australia. Her research interests include sustainable tourism
destination policy and planning, climate change, and indigenous tourism.
She has been involved in some 30 research and consultancy projects includ-
ing studies of policy, planning and governance in Australia and overseas in
the contexts of sustainable and responsible tourism, climate change, and
indigenous tourism.
Noel Scott <noel.scott@griffith.edu.au> is Professor at Griffith University.
The work for this book was done while he was working at The University
of Queensland. His research interests include tourism experiences, destina-
tion management, and stakeholder organization. He has completed consul-
tancy projects in a number of countries and has spoken at international
conferences and forums. He has published over 180 manuscripts including
13 books. Prior to his academic career, Noel was a Senior Manager of
Research and Strategic Services at Tourism Queensland.
Valerie A. Sheppard <vsheppard7@gmail.com> is a doctoral candidate at
Simon Fraser University. She holds an MA in Recreation and Leisure and a
Bachelor of Tourism Studies from Brock University in Canada. Her doc-
toral research explores the impact of critical events on the resilience of

sustainability-focused governance systems in resort community destinations.


Valerie’s research is funded by Canada’s Social Sciences and Humanities
Research Council.
Andreas Strobl <andreas.strobl@uibk.ac.at> is Assistant Professor at the
Department of Strategic Management, Marketing and Tourism at the
University of Innsbruck, Austria. In the course of his doctoral degree, he
investigated entrepreneurs accessing resources especially focusing on social
exchange processes and associated phenomena like social capital. He
finished his doctorate in 2012. His further research interests are associated
to entrepreneurship and tourism.

Michael Volgger <michael.volgger@eurac.edu> is a researcher at the


Institute for Regional Development and Location Management at the
European Academy of Bozen/Bolzano in Italy. He studies for his doctorate
at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in Germany. His main
areas of expertise include destination governance and location management,
innovation, and cooperation in tourism.
Peter W. Williams <peterw@sfu.ca> is a geographer and planner whose
work focuses on policy, planning, and management issues related to sus-
tainable tourism development. His particular interest is in strategies that
lead to more sustainable uses of natural and cultural resources for tourism
purposes. He is a member of the Centre for Tourism Policy and Research
in the School of Resource and Environmental Management at Simon
