NAME OF PROJECT : EXTENSION OF ELEVATED ROAD OVER RIVER YAMUNA (PH-III),
FROM SARAIKALE KHAN TO MAYUR VIHAR IN DELHI

Methodology for Stressing of Multi Anchorages ( 12T15 / 19T15 Anchorage System)

A) MOUNTING OF JACK :
 Thread the required no. of strands (12/19, having suitable jacking length) into
the duct one by one.
 Fix the bearing plate on both the ends of a tendon to be stressed.
 Fix the wedges in each hole of the bearing plates.
 Mount the single – pull jack and connect to the hose pipe with jack and hydraulic
power pack. Connect the power pack to the source of electric power supply.
Total Force mentioned in the drawing is for group (Multi) of anchorage. Force to be applied
in individual strand shall be total force divided by no. of strands. Pressure will remain same
for all the strands. Elongation for each cable should be modified taking actual A & E values
into consideration. Pressure requirements should be modified taking into consideration
efficiency of the jack being used.
A) STRESSING OPERATION
I. Apply initial pressure of 50 kg/cm2 one by one in all the strands at stressing
end, for removal of slackness in strand and further self-mounting of jack.
Also mark a ref. point 100mm away from bearing on strands to measure the
pull in of wedges at dead end.

II. Now mount the jack again in 1st strand and apply pressure of 50kg/cm2 and
measure the travel of jack piston with reference to jack body with the help of
scale. Increase the pressure to 100kg/cm2 and measure the elongation.
Move to the second strand and stress the strand in similar fashion upto 100
kg/cm2. Move to the third strand and similarly stress the remaining strands
one by one at an interval of 100kg/cm2. Continue stressing to required
pressure at intervals of 100kg/cm2 and note down the ram movement in
each strand.

III. After reaching desired pressure and required elongation, release the jack
pressure slowly to 50kg/cm2 and measure the slip.

IV. Release the jack and mount it to next strand and further, continue the
stressing operation as mentioned above in step II & III for remaining strands.
Note that, zero correction i.e. elongation achieved upto application of initial
pressure of 50Kg/cm2 shall be taken into consideration while finally calculating
gross elongation achieved at final pressure.

V. Remove the jack and mark reference point at suitable distance from
concrete to measure further slip, if any, after 24hrs of stressing. During
stressing if there is any breakage of strand, same shall be immediately
reported to all the concerned. Cutting of strands shall be carried out after
24hrs slip measurement after approval of Engineers.

VI. Continue applying pressure up to desired modified elongation respective to

three stressing condition satisfied and compared as given hereunder:

i. If the calculated elongation is reached before the calculated gauge

pressure is obtained, continue tensioning till the calculated gauge
pressure is attained, provided the elongation does not exceed 1.05 times
the calculated elongation. If this elongation is achieved before the
calculated gauge pressure is attained, stop stressing and inform the
Engineer.
ii. If the calculated elongation has not been reached continue tensioning by
increase in pressure at suitable intervals till the calculated elongation is
attained, provided the gauge pressure does not exceed 1.05 times the
calculated gauge pressure.
iii. If the elongation at 1.05 times the calculated elongation is less than 0.95
times the calculated elongation, the following measures must be taken,
in succession, to define the cause of this lack of elongation.
 Recalibrate the pressure gauge
 Check the functioning of the jack, pump and leads.
 De-tension the cable. Slide it in its duct to check that it is not blocked by
mortar.
 Re-tension the cable, if free.

If the required elongation is not obtained, further finishing operations such as cutting or
sealing should not be undertaken without the approval of the Engineer.
