ADAS is the technology that helps vehicles to be automated, safer and

enhance safe driving.

ADAS can help us move into a vision of collision-free roads. It will also help in
traffic management, reducing emissions and innovation towards high
technology areas."

ADAS three elements active braking, active steering and active power terrain.
Challenges are there in the adoption of ADAS technology.

Today where 83% accident happens because of driver negligence.

Road accidents are a big concern in India, especially on highways and
implementing ADAS is replete with challenges.

ADAS features such as Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and
Blind Spot Detection will be easy to deploy on highways while Parking Assist
Systems can work well

Levels of ADAS
 Level 0: No operation automation( Normal Cruise control )
 Level 1: Driver assistance( Adaptive cruise Control ,AEB
 Level 2: Partial operation automation. ...
 Level 3: Conditional operation automation. ...

a Korean company, Mando Corp is working with Mahindra & Mahindra for the
supplies of ADAS technologies which include radar and front camera for autonomous
emergency braking.

following technologies will see increasing penetration in the Indian automotive

market and by 2030, they will be fully in place:

 Tire-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

 Drowsiness Monitoring System (DMS)
 Parking Assist System
 Adaptive Cruise Control System (ACCS)
 Blind Spot Detection System (BSDS)
 Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)

How India is embracing ADAS technology?

Advanced driver assistance systems require basic infrastructure such as well-

organized roads, lane marking, and availability of GPS for effective
functioning. Also, V2V and V2X communications require adequate
connectivity infrastructure.

V2V communication
It uses a wireless protocol similar to wifi called dedicated short range
communication (DSRC) it is combined with GPS technology.
Its gives a 360 deg view of similarly equipped vehicles.

Transmitted messages include : current GPS position

Acceleration , speed and heading
Vehicle control info like : transmission state (even in which gear) ,brake
status , steering wheel angle ,vehicle path history and even path prediction.

Operating in a 75 MHz-wide band around 5.9 GHz, DRSC would allow V2V
communication and a V2I interface via dedicated roadside beacons
(although it’s unclear who would pay for, operate and maintain them).

Nowadays LTE technology is also there

Vehicle to infrastructure Communication

Its having a server(on infrastructure) and client (on vehicle)

In a developing country like India, the development of IT infrastructure on

highways is slow as compared to developed economies. 3G and 4G-LTE
communication networks, which are required for connectivity, are offered in
urban and semi-urban areas only.

Continental AG : The German Tier 1 has one of the largest technology centres in
Bangalore, India. This centre is working on developing microphone-based contact
sensor system (CoSSy). This system will assist drivers during low-speed maneuvers
and bring the vehicle to an emergency stop by detecting a low-speed contact
between the vehicle and a person or object. The system is capable of scanning
objects that lie outside the short-range detection cone of the existing ultrasonic
sensors to assist the driver during reverse parking. For ADAS features as well as
autonomous vehicles, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication will become a basic
norm for the vehicles of the future – which will be equipped with multiple sensors,
cameras, a radar and lidar – all working in real-time and also correlating with the road
data available on the cloud. The Technical Centre India is a major contributor to the
development of this technology which will be deployed globally.
