24-HOUR CLOCK TIME
So far we have studied 12-hour clock time where we used a.m. or nm
the different times. But there is another way of writing the forenoo to oshow
and afternoon (p.m.) times. After 12 o'clock noon time, we say oon
o'clo nam
2 o'clock, etc. This time is also called 1300 hours or 1400 hours, respectivel
express p.m. time in hours, we simply
add 12 to the given number of houre Thus,to
For example, 3:45 p.m. is written as 1545 hours.
6 o'clock in the morning or 6:00 a.m. is written as 0600 hours.
Note:
I. Here time in hours is always expressed in 4-digit numbers.
2. The last 2 digits on the extreme right stand for minutes.
The use of 24-hour clock time is generally seen in railways or airlines time-tables
Example 1. Express in 24-hour clock time:
(a) 6:05 a.m. (b) 2:15 p.m.
Solution.
(a) 6:05 a.m. -> 0605 hours (6) 2:15 p.m. > |4l5 hours
Exercise 66

(d) 7:05 a.m.
(e) I:10 a.m. (f) 11:20 p.m.
2. Write the following
using 12-hour clock time:
(a) 0700 hours
