1. Patient-Centered
- To be able to make the client verbalize his own feeling
Evaluation: The nurse allows the patient to express thoughts and feelings and
relates this to observed and reported behaviours, clarifying areas of conflict and
anxiety. The nurse identifies and maximizes the patient’s ego strengths and
encourages socialization
- Offering self, show the patient that the student nurse is making herself available
and is concern to the patient.
Evaluation: Offering self is one of the Therapeutic Communication in terms of
dealing with a Psychiatric patient. The nurse is making sure that she is available
in suggesting interest in the client and a desire to assist the client.
2. Student Centered
- To build a therapeutic nurse-patient relationship
Evaluation: Building a therapeutic relationship with the patient was done by the student
nurse it helps to determine effective communication and information-sharing, in
understanding the patient's preferences regarding their environment, enabling them to feel
safe and to trust in the care being provided.
- To establish rapport, trust, and cooperation with the client
Evaluation: Establishing rapport was done by the student nurse to gain trust from
her client. The more the student nurse know her client, and the more they get to
know her, the easier the process. The client can trust the student nurse will find
the best home for him, and she can trust them to listen her ideas and advice.
