- What do you think about the environment in your country in particular and in the world in
general?
- How about the pollutions? Do they have any affection to your daily life?
- Do you have any suggestion to reduce these problems?

Reality:

 Air pollution:
- Thick dust interferes with vision, harms to our respiratory system.
- Concentration of PM2.5 dust in the air is always at a high level.
- The level of air pollution exceeds the level harmful to humans.
- Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are two of the leading air pollution cities in the world.
+ According to “World air quality 2018” report, Hanoi ranked 2nd in Southeast Asia and 209th
out of a total of 3000 cities ranked for PM2,5 dust pollution.
+ HCM City ranked 15th in Southeast Asia and 455th in the world.
 Water pollution:
- Plastic waste is flooding the beach.
- Domestic waste is discharged directly into the river destroys the habitat of aquatic species.
- Some factories poured waste oil into the watershed polluted the water which is used for daily
activities of many people.
+ 6 counties and 4 districts in Hanoi didn’t have fresh water to use.
+ Harm to more than 1 million people.
 Soil pollution:
- The land near industrial areas is contaminated with heavy metals.
- Giant landfills are destroying the earth little by little.
- Forest area is being narrowed each day because trees can’t grow on polluted soil.

Causes:

 Environmental impacts:
- Landslides, soil erosion cause the water to swept away mud, dirt, humus…
- Volcano eruptions raise dust and smoke.
- Tides, sea level rise cause salinization.
- Waste of organisms or their corpses decomposes into organic matter cause water pollution.
 Human impacts:
- Industrial waste is indiscriminately discharged without processed.
- Domestic waste is dumped straight into rivers, sea by people.
- Emissions from vehicles cause air pollution.
- On average, each Vietnamese person discharges 1.2 kg of garbage each day and 16% is plastic
waste.
Effects:

 Effects on human health:


- Water pollution causes diseases such as : pruritus, hepatitis, diarrhoea,…
- Air pollution causes respiratory diseases : bronchitis, asthma,…
- Soil polltion causes long effects on human life:
+ Lead pollution harms the brain.
+ Mercury causes kidney damage.
+ The liver is affected by some kinds of incecticide.
 Effects on enviroment:
- Causing climate changes:
+ Melting ice.
+ Flood, erosion, tsunami, earthquake,…
- Causing ecosystem imbalance, lead to species of plants and animals become extinct.
- Habitat of species is narrowed because of pollutions.

 WWF Vietnam:
- Is one of the largest and oldest organizations in the world.
- Some activities are held by WWF in Vietnam such as “Earth Hour”, “30 days of challenge –
Connecting with The Earth”.
 CHANGE:
- Founded in 2013 in Vietnam.
- Propagating through painting, video making.
- “Nghiệp Nhựa”, a successful media campaign of CHANGE.
