Inventory Tracking: a Branch of Supply Chain Management in E-

Commerce
Topic: After the project ends, you write a personal reflection sharing lessons learned as the result of
your involvement in the project when leading or managing a project.

INTRODUCTION

In our project, we initially introduced the concept of supply chain management (SCM) as a whole,
and then gave details about SCM in E-Commerce (EC) and its components. We presented six
branches of SCM in EC that are supply and demand, warehousing, inventory tracking, order entry,
order management, distribution and delivery to the customer, and dived deep into inventory
tracking as the core of our project. Finally, we gave definition of inventory tracking, its pros and
cons, its applications and trends in the world and Vietnam, and our opinion.

The project involved the importance of inventory tracking, as it would benefit both seller and buyer.
If seller has a firm record of which warehouse storing the package is closest to the buyer, they would
not only reduce the cost of shipment but the time of delivery as well. However, we also addressed
challenges a business could face when they are stacking large quantity of products. After that, we
raised questions that had troubled specialist and provided applications of inventory tracking to
resolve those problems. Finally, we presented our opinion on the significance of inventory tracking
to the supply chain management of a business.

PARTICIPATION

In the project, we were a group of five people and I was the leader. I played the role of idea-
organiser who scout the internet to gather information and data to conduct the project. However, I
never decided which information would be selected and displayed by myself. Instead, I discuss with
my group to single out the most suitable, precise. This action was the reason I was respect by other
members and it showed that I had appreciation towards others rather than being completely
dominant in the group.

Over the process of conducting the project, our path was initially very ambiguous. Thanks to some
useful sources of information that I gathered, we were able to clear our way and marked our aims in
the project. Eventually, when we were just about to give the presentation about our research to the
class, my team was suffering from nervousness and anxiety. I took a step up and raised their morale
through my voice of advice and comfort. We achieved the score of 8 out of 10 for our research and
no member was upset or discourage by it. We planned to collaborate in the future to improve our
marks and help overcome one another weakness.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

I believe that I fulfilled my role as the leader of a group. This title of the leader was not acclaimed by
myself but was acknowledged by others and I lived up to that title. I was the lighthouse for my
group, the Columbus who paved the way to success. However, I understand a lighthouse is nothing
without ships. That was the reason I never acted on my own but held discussions for other members
to give their opinion on the project. Although we went through rough time searching for precise
information about the project on the internet and had many arguments about which ideas was most
suitable, we came to agreement after listing out pros and cons of each idea. Nevertheless, those
experiences were the opportunities for us to express our thoughts and critical thinking about topic
that deserved debates. Thanks to that, we were able to come closer to one another since we got to
step into shoes and points of view.

During the project, I underwent many negative and positive experiences and realisation of my
ability. Even though I am talented in searching and gathering information, I was detained by myself
due to my laziness and procrastination. I did not started to work until there was only 10 days left for
the deadline and resulted in many times I urged my team to speed up their process. It led to
discomfort and unreliability from my team to me but they did not hesitate to express so. One time,
we were at a café working on the project and the other members directly pointed out that I was not
effective at all. It was due to that openness that we turned our weaknesses into our strengths and
made plans to collectively resolve the issue. Now, I am fully aware of the effect of my laziness and
procrastination and always striving to work more efficiently and cooperatively with others.

Through this experience, I learned that I should never let myself get into my own way and never be
pushy to others. From my procrastination, I succumbed to anger and anxiety resulting into constant
deadlines for my own group. Now that I had been aware of that, I understand that I should always
keep a cool head when dealing with even close-up deadlines. I am confident that this project was a
platform to build my management skills since it helped me understand the psychology and spirit of a
leader. A leader should always be calm, oriented, and self-aware.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The project was about my experience working as leader on the topic of inventory tracking: a branch
of supply chain management in E-commerce in which the group and I had various phrases of
vicissitudes. Thanks to those experiences, we came closer not as a group of co-workers but as friends
who care about one another and are always willing to point out our flaws. As a result, I learned to
overcome my laziness, procrastination, and pushy attitudes and to polish my collaborative and
management skills
