Reflective Essay for Global Perspective Project

By: Bhargavi Sinha C8

Evaluation of project outcome

Our team divided the project into three major sectors: the first was the Questionnaire, then the
Research from online sources and then we finally compiled all the information in a site. Before
discussing the outcome that was the website I suggest that we shed light on the various aspects
of our project such as the questionnaire and our research.

The Questionnaire we created aimed to explore all the aspects of disease prevention from
whether a disease can be prevented or not to the best methods of disease prevention. The
response we got was overwhelming, with over 160 medical professionals giving their opinions
on the topic.

Secondly, was the research document we compiled as a team, with our Research Head being
Dhruv Garg, who was assisted by the other teammates, the research allowed us to find relevant
information on studies and reports conducted on our topic.

Finally, we collated all the information in a Powerpoint Presentation, using the analysis of our
questionnaire results and research material, the presentation along with all our other data was
then uploaded on a simple website to make it easily accessible.

Our outcome was appealing and attracted the attention of readers, the information on the
topic was relevant and viewers were intrigued by the various forms of our data presentations.
However, our outcome had some drawbacks as we had aimed to present our findings in a more
interactive manner such as a video or animation, but due to limited time and lack of
connectivity unable to achieve that aim. From next time we would aim to create realistic goals
and improve our planning skills.

Evaluation of project process

Our group consisted of six members and all of us were added to a WhatsApp group along with
our teacher for the ease of communication outside school, however during the commencement

1
of our project we discovered that one of our group members was not part of the WhatsApp
group, and his contact details were not with any other group members. Also, our WhatsApp
group didn’t prove to be useful and none of the teammates were online. Apart from school, we
had little to no coordination with other team members. This meant many of the collaborative
tasks were being done at an individual level, affecting the quality of our outcome.

We divided the responsibility according to the skill sets for example one of our teammates is an
excellent researcher and analyst, similarly, we had a coder in our team so, even though our
website didn’t require any programming he was assigned with designing the website and the
presentation. I was glad as a team leader to have teammates with such a vast skill set.

Despite our skilled teammates, we did face difficulty when it came to involving a few other
teammates especially since one of them had taken a week off due to travel and another was
absent for 2 days. This proved challenging, as some of our teammates had to balance a lot of
work and others had little to no work. Our progress was also affected by the sheer number of
concept tests scheduled in the next week and other school and co-curricular work.
Overcoming, such challenges taught me that I should plan according to our schedules and
divide responsibilities not only according to skill but also according to the individual
workloads.

Evaluation of individual performance

During the first few days, when the roles weren’t clearly defined, I was a bit surprised to find
out that I was considered a team leader by the rest of my teammates, I gratefully embraced the
responsibility but was overwhelmed at the same time due to the amount of work that needed
to be done in the limited time.
I utilised my parents’ social circle to share our questionnaire with several Medical
professionals, I also assisted in creating the website due to my experience in web design and
helped in the creation of the PowerPoint presentation. Overall, I tried my best to assist my
teammates throughout.
I did have a few arguments with certain teammates which could have been avoided with some
cooperation on my part, I now realise the importance of being transparent when it comes to
discussions with the team.

Benefits and challenges of working in a team
Working in a group offered several benefits. Firstly, dividing tasks based on individual strengths
maximized efficiency. People could focus on their talents and avoid tasks they disliked. For
example, I prefer creative aspects of the project such as design and creative writing so I was
assigned responsibilities that required those skills. Secondly, collaboration fostered openness to
diverse perspectives. The influx of ideas and feedback expanded my understanding and
enhanced the work's quality. In this project, constructive criticism from the team was crucial
for achieving an outstanding outcome.
However, teamwork also presented challenges. Teammates rely heavily on each other, making
individual accountability essential and demanding. Without a strong sense of responsibility,
unproductive behaviour, taking over others' tasks, and deflecting blame can occur.
Additionally, effective communication is crucial, which I found most challenging. Formulating
constructive criticism without causing hurt requires careful thought and precise phrasing.

Personal learning
We all know a lot about the prevention of diseases especially after the COVID-19 pandemic,
however this project helped me to delve into a deeper understanding of disease prevention.
Through this project I learnt that not all diseases can be prevented such as chronic diseases or
genetic diseases, I also got the opportunity to study a lot of articles through which I picked up
an array of facts and information.

All in all, this project gave me a chance to explore a topic in greater detail and led me to believe
that even if we think we know a topic thoroughly we can still learn something new. Further
reflection on this project inspired me to work on my teamwork skills. I am grateful that I got
the opportunity to work on this project and look forward to more such projects.
