 2-3 FINGER BREADTHS OR 1-1.5 INCHES/ 1-2 INCHES between axilla and
rest pad
 Hand grips should be even with the TOP OF THE HIP LINE
 ELBOWS FLEXED AT 30 DEGREES
 START IN TRIPOD POSITION CRUTCHES 6 INCHES OUT DIAGONALLY
FROM THE FEET

 TWO POINT GAIT


move RIGHT CRUTCH & LEFT FOOT together  LEFT CRUTCH & RIGHT
FOOT together

 THREE POINT GAIT


BOTH CRUTCHES AND INJURED LEG TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME
THEN MOVE NON-INJURED LEG

 FOUR POINT GAIT


move RIGHT CRUTCH first, THEN MOVE LEFT FOOT, MOVE LEFT CRUTCH
THEN MOVE RIGHT FOOT

 SWING-TO GAIT
BOTH CRUTCHES FORWARD then BOTH LEGS FORWARD AND PLACE
WHERE THE CRUTCHES ARE LOCATED

 SWING-THROUGH GAIT
BOTH CRUTCHES FORWARD then BOTH LEGS FORWARD AND PLACE
PASS THROUGH THE CRUTCH PLACEMENT
STAIRS:
GOING UP= GOOD LEG UP ON STEP FOLLOWED BY CRUTCHES AND BAD LEG
GOING DOWN= MOVE CRUTCHES DOWN ON THE STEP, FOLLOWED BY THE
BAD LEG/ INJURED LEG AND MOVE GOOD LEG DOWN TO THE STEP

 Buck’s Extension Traction
 Chin Halter Strap ( occasionally used to treat chronic neck pain)
 Pelvic Belt
 Bryan’s traction ( developmental dislocated hips – child)
 Hamilton Russell Traction ( more distal femur fracture in children)

 Gardner-Wells Traction
