BIKE CRANK ANALYSIS

CAD DETAILS-After operating ansysworkbench where unit is taken as

US ENGINEERING Unit. After defining material property we take
material as aluminium alloy .After that we import BIKE CRANK
GEOMETRY.We edit the model and we assign material property as
Aluminium Alloy. All bike crank surface material is taken as
aluminium alloy with thickness as 0.01in.We define zero stiffness for
rosette gauge via command BOUNDARY CONDITIONS-We apply fixed
support at one end ,and apply force at another end with 0,100,0 co-
ordinate.

MESH GENERATION-After selecting the structure we go for
multizone meshing where sweep size is taken as 0.075in.After that
we insert face sizing for the 2 faces and edge sizing for 12 edges by
slecting box sizing from mode option. After that we generate mesh
RUN THE SIMULATION-By solving the static structural we insert
solutions for total deformation, normal stress, normal elastic strain
,elemental triads, and for three faces again doing normal elastic strain
2.
CONCLUSION-Simulation results are comparable with gauge results.
CAD Details- Engineering material is being taken as Structurul
Steel, with isotropic elasticity.Around the corners fillets are provided
to lower down the stress concentration value little bit with needed
dimensions
Mesh Detail-Meshing is operated with face sizing with needed
dimensions as compared to the size of structure.Curvature normal
angle is reduced because its too much for the material to sustain ,so
it is reduced to smaller value .By doing this mesh figure also got
changed. The structure is being 2d and stress is being taken
axisymmetric.
Set up Details-
The purpose is to check whether stress concentration can be
resolved in 2 to three directions for which engineering material is
being taken as Structurul Steel, with isotropic elasticity.Around the
corners fillets are provided to lower down the stress concentration
value little bit with needed dimensions .
Post-Processing Details- calculate σyy as load is directed in y
direction.Maximum sress occurs near the fillet region of a value
1308.7 psi and stress concentration factor value is
(1308.7/1000=1.3087)
Now for revolving the model the beta version is enabled, for which
symmetry object is added ,and in the detail of symmetry it is
changed to 2 D symmetry. After the symmetry of the object is done
it is revolved at the interval of  10º About 36 times. Now on clicking
on normal stress we get the results of normal stress.(about 1308.7
Max,-7.6875 Min)
Now on refining mesh by changing curvature angle to 1 degree and
and minimum size of mesh from 0.05in to 0.02 in.For which nodes
and elements got increased, now again after solving and seeing the
results of normal stress .Results were (1315.8 Max,-7.8259 Min).
Conclusion- In the table below, the axial stress concentration factors on the
original and refined meshes are compared with the hand calculation from the Pre-Analysis
step. Recall that the hand calculation used a formula from Roark’s Formulas for Stress and
Strain.

There is only a slight change after refining the mesh. The stress concentration factor on either
mesh is accurate to within the level of accuracy of the cited formula, i.e., 5%. This increases
our confidence in the Ansys results.
Now on refining mesh by changing curvature angle to 1 degree and and minimum size of mesh from
0.05in to 0.02 in.For which nodes and elements got increased, now again after solving and seeing the
results of normal stress .Results were (1315.8 Max,-7.8259 Min).
