Cultural Identity Brochure

Describe the Class

❖ Fifth Graders; 24 Students

Objective(s)

● Students will gain knowledge, respect, and appreciation of different


cultures
● Students will build social skills
● Students will create a brochure that includes the cultures or backgrounds
of their peers

Procedures

● As students proceed into the classroom, they will see “What do you know about different
countries or cultures?” written on the board.

● Students will then brainstorm about their own cultural identity.

● Students will break into groups of 4. (should be 6 groups)

● Students will discuss with their peers about their culture, where they originated, their
ethnicity, their life, etc.

● Students will then research and write about another students culture

● Students will then create a quad-fold brochure that explains each student’s individual
cultural identity.

● Groups will present poster board to class once completed.

Poster Board
Magazines
Scissors
Colored Pencils/Crayons/Markers
Printed out Pictures

Grouping Structures

● 6 Groups of 4 Students

Modifications

Special needs students will receive a worksheet that allows them to explain more about
their cultural identity and things that represent them as an individual. Students will list 5 things
that make them who they are; where they are from, dishes, traditions, holidays, etc.

Assessment

5 points - Neatness

5 points - Color

5 points - Through summary on a specific students background or culture

10 points - Participation/Presentation
