CHC1101 – HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION

MODULE 1 - ACTIVITY NO. 1

Name: Raymund Daniel Ortaleza Date: 1/21/2021

Subject/Section: CHC1101 Professor: Larry Turgo Rutaquio

Instructions: Your task in this activity is conduct a research on the concepts behind Norman's principle design

There are many principles of design, But when it comes to web and interaction design, Donald norman
provides what may be the best six to abide by.

1. Visibility

- Problem arise when we cannot "see" how to do use a device

- Sensor technology like auto faucets - not sure how to use - guess where to put hands

- Visible knobs, dials and buttons have been replaced by invisible and ambiguous "active zones"

2. Feedback

- What is it doing. now? what action has been performed?

- needs to be immediate and synchronized with user action

3. Affordance

- Perceived and actual properties of an object that give clues to its operation

4. Mapping

- Relationship to controls and their effect

5. Constraints

- Restricting the kind of interactions that can take place

- Reduce the chance of error

- Can also work to focus user's attention to needed task

6.Consistency

- Designing interfaces to have similar operations and use similar elements for achieving similar task

- Systems are usable and learnable when similar concepts are expresses in similar ways

- enables people to quickly transfer prior knowledge to new contexts and focus ib relevant task

Four types of consistency

- aesthetic
- functional
- internal
- external
