ABSTRACT

CATAPAT, STEPHANIE LOIS C., DINGLASAN JERIC M., Design and Analysis of
Rainwater Harvesting System in Engineering Science Building at Cavite State
University- Main Campus. Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Cavite State
University,Indang, Cavite. June 2020. Adviser: Engr. Renato B. Cubilla.

Water is one of the most important resources for survival of human being but

very few attentions are paid for its economical use and conservation of this precious

resource. Rainfall is the prime source of water and if rain water is harvested, the

scarcity of water can be eliminated altogether. The design of the rainwater harvesting

system of the Engineering Science Building at Cavite State University – Main

Campus was conducted from October 2019 to March 2020 at the said university.

The study addressed the need of an alternative water source that could

supply the water demand of the said building. The study aimed to design and analyze

rainwater harvesting system that would satisfy the demand of the occupants for

flushing.

The main objective of the study is to design and analyze rainwater harvesting

system in Engineering Science (ES) Building at Cavite State University Main

Campus.

The study provided architectural plans, rainwater harvesting system layout,

design of the reinforced concrete tank and its specifications, and cost estimates.

The system was designed as per the codes and specifications of the National

Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP 2015), National Plumbing Code of the

Philippines and National Water Resources Board requirements.

The structural analysis of the reinforced concrete tank was simplified using

STAAD.Pro V8i (SELECTseries 6). Results such as shears, reactions, and moments

were obtained and those data were used in determining the specifications of the

structural members.

x
The total project cost including the direct cost, indirect cost, overhead cost

and profit is P353 376.32.

After the analysis and computations, the design was proven safe. The

researchers recommended that the rainwater harvesting system can be an

alternative water supply system of the said building.

The design project conducted could be used by other researchers as

reference regarding the design and analysis of rainwater harvesting.
