1. What is a measuring instrument?

Ans: Measuring instrument is a device used to quantify and record

information that is important to a research study, (catane, 2000)

2. What are the two types of measuring instrument? Differentiate each.

Ans:
*RESEARCHER-DEVELOPED INSTRUMENT
 Constructed when standardized instrument cannot match up as a
tools for a specific research
 Some research-developed instruments are the interview schedule,
observation form, documents analysis form and the questionnaire.
 These instruments are used to test the hypothesis of the study.

*EVALUATING THE RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

 Reliability-refers to the consistency of scores obtained by the

same persons when they are re-examined with the same test
on different occasions or with different sets of equivalent items
or under variable examining conditions (Anastasi & Urbina,
1997)
 It also refers to the measuring instruments’ accuracy or
precision
 The property of getting the correct measurement is accuracy.
 The property of getting self-consistent results in precision.
 All types of reliability can be expressed in terms of a correlation
coefficient (r) which expresses the degree of correspondence or
relationship between 2 sets of scores. Correlation coefficients
can be computed in various ways depending.
3. Give example for each types of measuring instrument.
