The 34th meeting of Senate of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology,


Jalandhar was held on 10.11.2020 through Video Conferencing.

The minutes of the meeting were circulated to the Hon’ble members on dated 27.11.2020.
The minutes, however, are again placed before the Hon’ble members as Annexure-I
Pages 1-28 for confirmation.

admission category, he/she is not eligible for conversion as a Full-Time candidate.

In this regard, it is proposed that if a Ph.D. (Part-Time) student secures


JRF/external funding, his/her candidature be changed as a Ph.D. (Full-Time)
candidate and he/she become eligible for external fellowship from the agency
concerned for the rest of the eligible period for drawing the fellowship.

Implementation Proposal for National Education Policy, 2020.
The proposal for implementation of National Education Policy, 2020 is placed for the
consideration of the Institute Senate:

NIT Jalandhar intends to implement NEP-2020 in a phased manner. It has been proposed
to adopt following NEP recommendations in the initial phase:

1. Academic Bank of Credit (ABC)


1.1 NEP Recommendation
An Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) shall be established which would digitally store the
academic credits earned from various recognized HEIs so that the degrees from an HEI
can be awarded taking into account credits earned.

1.2 Proposal for Policy on Academic Bank of Credit (ABC)


The NEP proposal will be implemented by Academic Section. The detailed modalities will
be prepared and requirements will be assessed by a committee comprising Dean
Academic and three Associate Deans in academic and examinations sections.

2. Multiple Entry and Exit Points


2.1 NEP Recommendation
Imaginative and flexible curricular structures will enable creative combinations of
disciplines for study, and would offer multiple entry and exit points, thus, removing
currently prevalent rigid boundaries and creating new possibilities for life-long learning.

2.2 Proposal for Policy on Multiple Exit Points


The proposed policy recommends three exit points to B.Tech. students and one exit point
to all PG programmes and PhD candidates.

2.3 Proposal for Policy on Multiple Entry Points for all UG and PG programmes
A UG or PG student who exits the course without completion due to unavoidable life
circumstances will be allowed re-entry into the course. Corresponding to her/his exit point,
the proposed policy recommends three entry points to B.Tech. and one entry point to all
PG programmes. The re-entry to the programme will be governed by the rules concerning
whether the programme had undergone changes at the time of re-entry into the
programme. These rules are proposed as under.

2.3.1 When there is no change in programme structure


If at the time of a student’s re-entry, the programme had not undergone any change (i.e.
the curriculum of the programme is same as it was when student had its exit), s/he can

continue the course right from her/his exit point. His all the credits earned on exit will be
transferred to her/his “ABC”.

2.3.1 When programme structure has undergone changes


If at the time of her/his re-entry, the programme had been revised/updated, his credit
earned before exit will be evaluated by BoS and decision regarding the actual credits to be
transferred to her/his “ABC” will be taken. With an objective of bringing parity with the
batch with which s/he will pass out, BoS will recommend courses (from the current
curriculum of the programme) to plug the differential.

2.4 Implementation Schedule


The proposal will come into effect immediately for
(i) B.Tech. students admitted in 2018 and onwards and
(ii) PG and PhD students admitted in 2020 onwards.

2.4.1 Revision of Curriculum and Syllabi


To enhance the rationality of the proposed policy with regard to employability potential of
the certificates proposed at various exit points, departments will require to

(i) revise the structure of the curricula of all the programmes offered,
(ii) revise the syllabi of its courses and
(iii) conduct workshops for faculty as per the need for carrying out above two tasks.

The due process will be completed before the admission of 2022.


2.5 Online Diploma courses
The Institute will start offering online diploma courses in collaboration with reputed
Institute/Industry. Necessary modalities shall be framed depending upon the nature of
Diploma courses.

The Govt. of India, Ministry of Education, vide letter F.No.33-9/2011-TS.III dated


23.08.2013 has provided procedure for selection of faculty in NITs system (copy placed as
an Annexure-XX Pages 251-253). Accordingly, the list of Subject Experts for selection of
Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors in various departments have
been received from the following departments and are placed as an Annexure-XXI Pages
