out in accordance with project drawings, specifications and materials.

Ensure there is no deviation in the results. If there is any deviation from the expected result, it
needs to be corrected immediately.

2.0 SCOPE
This job includes providing and application of the fireproof coating for steel. This procedure
goes through several stages and processes up to the topcoating which will be explained in the
work process.

3.0 MATERIAL
1. JOTUN STEELMASTER 120SB
2. JOTUN HARDTOP XP

4.0 MATERIAL STORAGE AND HANDLING

● Material must be stored in a dry place with minimal air circulation.
● Material should not be exposed to direct sunlight.
● Avoid storing in areas with high humidity.
● Recommended storage temperature is 5-25° C
Note :
The materials are imported goods that require 2 months from the date of order until delivery,
while it has an expiration date of 18 months from the date of production. A good coordination
is required so that it can be ensured the material hasn’t expired when it is needed and the work
won’t be rushed.

Rechecking the steels that were sourced from Galvanized Workshop. If an imperfection is

found in the primer coating, a repaint will be carried out by the party responsible for the initial
primer coating.

6.2. Pre-Installation Coating Preparation

In accordance to a request, the steel purlin will be coated with fireproofing up to topcoat before
installation. Therefore, it requires a specialized area to apply the fireproof coating to them that
is sufficiently protected from rain and isolated from other tasks.

6.3. Application of Fireproof Coating

● Before applying the fireproof coating, check the temperature of the steel using an
infrared thermometer gun, check the temperature of the surrounding air, and finally the
surrounding air’s humidity using a hygrometer to ensure they are suitable according to the
product supplier’s recommendations.
● The application of fireproof coating can only be done if the temperature of the steel is at
least 3 degrees above dew point.
● The method used to calculate dew point is attached in the Appendix.
● This material is very susceptible to humid weather and water, and therefore needs to be
applied in a dry enclosed space that is sufficiently sealed to protect it from the high humidity
outside or any source of water.
● Application of fireproof coating in the predetermined area will be done according to the
recommended thickness for each type of steel.
● The maximum thickness of one layer of wet paint is 1000 micron, shrinking to 690
micron when it dries.
● One layer of coating takes a minimum of 16 hours to dry completely for the next
painting.

6.4. Thickness Check

● Checking the thickness using ELCOMETER DFT GAUGE specifically for steel.
● Initial checks are carried out randomly internally before moving on to the next layer of

coating.

6.5. Final Thickness Check (Alongside Related Parties)

Final Thickness Check to ensure it is within the product’s recommended thickness. Will be
done together with other related parties (Applicator, Technical Supplier, QC Main Contractor
and Owner).

6.6. Correction Work

If a flaw on the coating is found during the joint inspection, local error correction will be
carried out using manual tools (paint roll, paint brush and scraper).

6.7. Topcoat Coating

Topcoat coating will be done either using spray or manually with paint roll and/or brush, with
Jotun Hardtop XP paint.
