ENGLISH NOTES PUNCTUATION RULES
Comma (,):
RULES
1.To separate three or more items in a series.
2.To separate adjectives that modify the same
noun.
3. Between the day and year in a date.
4. After the greeting and closing of a letter.
5. At the end of a direct quotation that is
astatement when it comes at the beginning of a
sentence.
Period/Full Stop (.):
RULES
1. Use it at the end of declarative sentence.
2. After abbreviations.
3. Use as decimal point.
Exclamation Point (!):
RULES
1. Use it after strong interjection.
2. Use it after exclamatory sentence.
Quotation Marks (“ “):
RULES
1. Use it before and after a direction quotation.
2. Also use before and after the names of book
chapter, essays, poems, magazine.
Question Mark (?):
RULES
1. Use it at the end of interrogative sentences.
(Sentences start with helping verbs: does, do, did,
will, shall, is, am are, was, were, have, has, had)
1. Use it after direct question.
(Sentences start with(as question words): what,
why, where, when, which, who, how, whose)

He’s bundled in a wool coat, hat, scarf and snow-
boots because it’s so cold.
Ali loves chocolate, ice cream and sandwich.
I have books, pens, pencils and charts.
He is tall, smart and beautiful boy.
