Independence Day: To celebrate


India’s independence day within our
community, the national Indian flag is
hoisted in front of the Ohio Union.
This brings our community together
and we celebrate with delicious
Indian food.

Freshers Party: The Fresher’s Party acts


as an official welcome to incoming students
at OSU. This event allows new students to
get to know other freshmen and enjoy a
night of delicious food, games and music.
Freshmen get the opportunity to get to
know the ISA board and also are invited to
the Fresher’s after party where they can
meet many more ISA community members.

Diwali: The “Festival of Lights” is a


popular OSU event that brings
together the entire community to
dress up in ethnic wear, light diyas,
fireworks and perform aarthi. There
are fun competitions such as rangoli
competitions as well as raffles
throughout the event.
Bollyween: This super fun after party is
Halloween with a bollywood twist. Dress
up in your favorite bollywood costumes
and enjoy a night with Indian music with
the community!

Navaratri: Enjoy a garbha night with the


ISA community with music and mouth-
watering food. In 2010, Navaratri was titled
the “Most Innovative Event” on campus and
has been maintaining the reputation ever
since

Holi: Holi is one of the most popular


events where the entire campus is
involved. With over 500 packets of vibrant
color, loud music, water, water guns and
food, it’s an event you will definitely not
want to miss out on during the spring
semester!

Buckeye mela is a joint Bollywood fusion and Bhangra dance
competition with the purpose of promoting Indian culture
while serving a 501 c non-profit organization that benefits the
South Asian community (either in India or in the USA). It has
been a huge success over the last eleven years. Buckeye Mela
hopes to expand this tradition to extend their charitable cause
Buckeye Mela to the community. Buckeye Mela has established itself as an
incredible and reputable competition in the United States. It is
@buckeyemela currently the largest collegiate Bollywood Fusion dance
competition in the United States and brings over 1000
members in the audience, over 400 participants, and 14-16
universities to OSU’s campus every year.

Raas in the 614 is a second year raas competition at The Ohio State
University. We are committed to promoting South Asian dance
culture, specifically Garba-Raas, by hosting a traditional Indian dance
competition. RAS (Raas All Stars) teams from all over the United States Raas in the 614
come to Columbus to compete and celebrate throughout the
weekend. Students can get involved with Raas in the 614 throughout

the school year as we hold social events and fundraisers. Students
also have the opportunity to be a part of the competition during the
weekend by signing up to be a liaison or a part of the staff. Details of
this will be sent out through our various social media channels. In the
spring, students can apply to be a part of our amazing board and help
put on the competition in 2022! We hope to see all of you at this
year’s competition!

Organizations
Sankalpa is a student movement started in Columbus,
OH by students of OSU. The aim of Sankalpa is to
undertake sustainable, micro-developmental, grassroot
projects in India in areas like education, public health,
sanitation, agriculture, etc. We have monthly meetings
Sankalpa to discuss project proposals and find the most
impactful initiatives to fund. We raise funds through
@sankalpa_tosu various fundraising initiatives including operating a
concession stand at home OSU football games and
organizing an annual community cultural dinner. Join
our Sankalpa family to raise awareness and create a
positive impact on our Indian community!

BuckeyeThon is the largest student-run philanthropy in the


state of Ohio which raises funds and awareness for the
Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at
Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Students who support this BuckeyeThon
organization work year-round to support the families and kids
being treated at the hospital both emotionally and financially. @buckeyethon
As a program of the Office of Student Life and Student
Philanthropy at The Ohio State University, BuckeyeThon
engages thousands of students annually, fostering a spirit of
philanthropy and uniting the Ohio State community to make a
difference For The Kids.

Students for South Asian Service, also known as SSAS, is a


philanthropic and cultural student organization at Ohio State. Our
primary mission is to raise money for PrathamUSA. Pratham
works with underprivileged children and youth across India, and
focuses on implementing programs to both increase access to
education and improve education policy. Pratham emphasizes
Students for South vocational training, girl’s education, and learning and literacy.
SSAS hosts various cultural and social events throughout the year
Asian Service to raise awareness for Pratham’s cause, as well as fundraise for
this philanthropy. Our major events include a Welcome Back
@osu.ssas Formal, held early in the fall semester, and Cook for South Asia,
generally hosted later in the spring semester. In addition to
fundraising, these events allow students to foster interpersonal
relationships amongst peers with similar backgrounds/cultures.
Snehalaya (which means Home of Love in Hindi) is an Indian-
based organization that provides relief to the country’s most
marginalized groups—victims of trafficking, poverty, rape,
domestic abuse, and HIV/AIDS. Snehalaya supports those

individuals through rehabilitation, education, and healthcare. @snehalaya.osu
The purpose of the club at Ohio State is to fundraise money
and promote awareness of individuals who have been treated
unjustly due to the society in which they live. Events hosted
will include a 5K walk, restaurant fundraisers, booths on the
Oval informing students about Snehalaya, and eventually, the
creation of a platform that reaches other colleges around the
country.

Buckeye Fusion is an all inclusive female competitive
Bollywood Fusion dance team at The Ohio State University.
Our mission is to unite South Asian cultures and young womxn
through various styles of dance that tell a powerful and
meaningful story. We aim to encourage Buckeye pride and
represent a dance team with honor and grace at competitions
Buckeye Fusion around the country. We aim to foster a sisterhood by
developing responsibility, teaching self-respect, encouraging
@buckeye_fusion honest effort, and striving for self-enhancement and character.
Through collaborative efforts of each other, our team prides
our passion of dance through quality performances that put
together many styles of dance ranging from bollywood, hip-
hop, bhangra, classical, and many more endless possibilities.
Our team strives to teach others the values that we love
through our simple passion of dance.

OSU Genesis is an all-male Bollywood-Fusion dance team.


We compete on the Desi Dance Network (DDN) circuit and
perform a variety of different dance styles, including
bhangra, hip-hop, urban, Bollywood (filmy), South Indian, OSU Genesis
and contemporary to name a few. Throughout the year, we
compete at different universities, as far away as Austin, TX

and as close-by as Cincinnati.
Ohio State Raas is OSU’s competitive Garba-Raas team,
originally formed back in 2009, and is currently the only
co-ed Indian dance team at Ohio State University.
Throughout our season, we travel to other universities
competing against other collegiate Raas teams,
Ohio State Raas showcasing our love for the traditional Gujurati dance
forms of both Garba and Raas throughout the country.
@ohiostateraas One of our biggest goal is to create a family atmosphere
among our dancers and to create long-lasting
friendships throughout team bonding and doing many
fun activities throughout the year. If you are looking to
get involved with the Indian community on campus, this
is a perfect opportunity!

OSU Inaayat is a Premiere Competitive Indian Classical Dance Team at The Ohio
State University founded in 2016. Inaayat, meaning grace in Hindi, strives to
celebrate the art form of Indian Classical Dance and provide students with an
open space to continue to practice their traditional dance form. Our members
have dance backgrounds in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Kathak, enabling

each person to bring her own experiences to our culturally-rich performances.
We choreograph multiple pieces that align with an overarching theme to present

to members of the university and the surrounding Columbus community. We
believe that art can be crafted to inform and educate audiences with new ideas
and perspectives. OSU Inaayat’s overarching mission is to advocate and celebrate
traditional art forms in order to increase cultural awareness and empower the
Ohio State community.

OSU Dhadkan is a South Asian Acapella team that expresses both


OSU Dhadkan Indian and American culture through music. OSU Dhadkan
competes on a national scale. They bring together a diverse
@osudhadkan group of people with a common interest in music and singing
without the use of any instruments.

The South Asian Theatre Alliance is a theatrical performance group at The


Ohio State University, dedicated to providing a platform for South Asian
voices. This organization was created from a need. A need to showcase
the stellar array of talent this university boasts. Our culture lends itself to South Asia
artistry and theatricality. Many of us were brought up on stories that are
larger than life, we freely dream, and our ability to imagine and aspire to Theatre Alliance
that dream is written into our DNA. The South Asian Theatre Alliance is a
student organization that is excited to connect artists with each other. We

will be writing and producing our own works. We will be looking for many
voices, from many different backgrounds to work with us. Our focus is the
South Asian angle. How do we see it? What do we, as the youth, want to
say to and about our community?

Organizations
Sikh Student Association is a student-based organization,
whose mission is to inform both Sikhs and non-Sikhs on
campus about Sikh ideologies all while promoting main tenets
of Sikhism, including community service, equality, interfaith
and intercultural dialogue. Such tenants will be attained by
creating service-learning opportunities at The Ohio State
Sikh Student University campus and Columbus area, as well as through
guest speaker and informational events. Sikh Student
Association Association also works to create a safe space on campus for
students who identify as Sikh and/or want to learn about the
@osusikhi Sikh faith. Within that safe environment, this organization
encourages and supports resources such as mental and
physical health awareness, family and friend support,
academic advising support and much more.

TEDx at the Ohio State University spreads the mission and initiative
of the International organization TED. TEDxOhioStateUniversity is TEDx
an independently organized event that aims to promote the
sharing of ideas and inspire students, faculty, staff, and community
members to learn from one another through brief lectures as well
as an interactive day event that comply with TED’s guidelines.

Delta Phi Omega is an OSU charter Sorority. Founded nationally


on December 6, 1998, the Sisters of Delta Phi Omega aspire to
create a bond like no other based on our five pillars of
Delta Phi Omega Sisterhood, Respect, Honesty, Loyalty, and Friendship. The
purpose of Delta Phi Omega is to foster unity among South Asian
Sorority women, build community awareness, and gain a greater
understanding of oneself and others. The sorority aspires to instill
@dpo_ohiostate leadership traits, excel in all academic endeavors, to encourage
an active relationship between the sorority and its respective
university, and shall do so with the utmost compassion, dignity,
and fortitude.
The Ohio Union Activities Board is the student-run
programming organization at OSU that provides diverse
programs and events. OUAB strives to create a fun,
accessible and challenging environment for its
members that empower each member to change and
Ohio Union shape the lives of fellow students while strengthening
their own leadership skills and fostering personal
Activities Board growth. Some of OUAB’s events include Welcome Week,
a weekly movie series called Flicks for Free, the
@ouab Welcome Back and Big Spring Concerts, Homecoming,

Student-Alumni Council is dedicated to enhancing the connection among Buckeyes


past, present, and future. We work to create a university that fosters a sense of
community and instills in its students a lifelong commitment to our alma mater.
Student-Alumni Council coordinates a variety of events and initiatives that integrate Student Alumni
students and alumni across the Ohio State community. In collaboration with The
Ohio State University Alumni Association, SAC plans projects ranging from events

like Homecoming Pep Rally and Buck-I-Run, to initiatives like Beat Tee sales and
Alumni Tours, to programs like Dinner for 12 Buckeyes and 5 Under 25 panels. Since
1980, SAC has proudly led student outreach efforts to establish a positive, loyal, and
spirited culture in The Ohio State University community among Buckeyes of
yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Undergraduate Student Government is Ohio State’s primary


governing body for undergraduates. The organization is dedicated
to serving students and improving the undergraduate experience.

meeting with administrators in areas ranging from dining to bike
