Last week, you lost your luggage while traveling on holiday. Luckily, you have travel insurance. Write a letter
to the manager of your insurance company. In your letter:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Response:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to file an insurance claim for luggage that was lost during my holiday last week.
The luggage is a green, medium-sized Samsonite model. Since this holiday was the first time it had been used, it
should appear to be in good condition. Unfortunately, it does not have a luggage tag with my contact
information.
While I am not completely sure how the luggage was lost, I imagine that the airline might have placed it on a
different flight. In fact, I have been in contact with the airline and they are almost certain that this is the most
probable scenario.
Before I left, I had taken out travel insurance with your company. Based on the information in the contract, lost
luggage is covered. Therefore, I have attached the insurance claim and I would appreciate it if your company
could review the approximated value of the luggage and process the attached claim as soon as possible.
Please let me know if you require any other information.
Yours faithfully,

QUESTION:
You missed an international flight due to a problem at the airport.
Write a letter to the airline. In your letter:

 Describe what happened that caused you to miss your flight

 Explain how missing your flight impacted you
 Clearly state what you would like the airline to do

Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in regards to an international flight that I missed due to reasons beyond my control.
For the past two weeks, I have been traveling for business and speaking at international conferences.
Unfortunately, I arrived to the Tokyo airport over three hours delayed yesterday afternoon, due to the technical
difficulties experienced by one of your company’s aircrafts. Consequently, I missed my connecting flight from
Tokyo to Madrid, and could not attend the conference.
As a result of the delay, my company had to send another exe
Semi-formal
Dear Ms. Snyder,

I am writing to request time off for an annual holiday trip with my family.
Each year, my extended family members plan a family reunion in Sacramento, California. Since we all live so
far away, these reunions have always been great opportunities for us to see each other and reconnect. It is for
this reason that I would need to use some of my holiday time in August.
Since the reunion falls on Sunday, August 25th, I would be available to work up until Friday, August
24th. Thus, I am formally requesting time off from Monday, August 26th until Friday, August 30th. I would be
available to return to work on Monday, September 2nd.

I fully realize that August is our busiest period, and taking holiday during this time
could potentially increase the workload of my colleagues. As such, I would be more than happy to take
on any overtime in early August or during the month of September.

Thank you for your understanding. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Informal
Dear Ben,
I hope you're well. I'm writing to invite you to a party I'll be having next Friday, December 17th.
I'm not sure if you've heard the news, but I proposed to my girlfriend Sally last week. This is a very exciting
time in our lives, and we'd like to formally celebrate the engagement with our family and friends. Not only will
it be a fun gathering, but we'll all be able to catch up and spend some time together.

Since the guest list is quite extensive, we've decided to have the party at “Le Chalet” restaurant in Pittsboro. If
you'll be coming from your city, though, it would be best to take Highway South for 30 miles, and then take the
“Steeltown 19A” exit. The restaurant is about 100 feet from the exit on the left-hand side.

Given the fact that the weather forecast is calling for a snowstorm next Friday, we've blocked off a few rooms at
the hotel next to the restaurant. Having said that, I would be happy to pay for your room, since you'd
be traveling quite a bit in order to celebrate with us.

I hope you'll be able to join us for the festivities!

Sincerely,
