Idea
Q1. Sell Your idea in 1-2 sentences

Uber is a fast and efficient on-demand car service. It is a mobile app that lets users
hail transportation anywhere and anytime.

Tips: Punch line that summarizes your product / service

Idea
Q2. Brief user experience/visualization

1. Open the app

2. Type in your destination
3. Choose your preferred ride
4. Input number of passengers
5. Review details and calculated fare
6. Wait for your ride
(please see supplementary file for the user interface)

Tips: Better to make it a step by step guide with visuals

Idea
Q2. Brief user experience/visualization
Idea
Q3. What are the problems that that your product/service aims to solve?

Not all areas have high taxi availability. Commuters need to go to an area where
they can hail a taxi easily. There’s also a chance that a taxi will reject passengers
simply based on their preferences. There is also uncertainty how much a rider would
need to pay and will only know once they have reached the destination. In general,
taxi rides are not convenient, expensive, and stressful to passengers.

Tip: Make this as detailed as possible, this is where every

good idea starts. Provide insights about the current situation
Idea
Q4. Who are the target customers/users? How big is this group of target users?

Commuters who usually go by taxis as their mode of transportation to work and

school (around 3.3 million trips a year in the USA).

Commuters who need to travel medium-long distances such as out-of-the-office

meetings and going to restaurants (around 1.4 billion trips a year in the USA).

Those who travel to and from the airport (around 4.6 million trips a year in the USA).

Commuter base in USA: 9.9 billion trips last 2019 (taxi)

Tips: For the “who” question, detail out your target customer. For
the “how big”, better if you can provide quantitative answer.
Idea
Q5. What is the target market’s current behavior in relation to the problem? How do they
solve the problem now? Are there other alternative solutions to the problem?

Currently, commuters wait for a long time before a taxi drives by. When there are no
taxis available, they will settle riding public utility vehicles like buses and subways.
These customers want the convenience of having to ride a car/taxi rather than
public vehicles but settles with public vehicles due to lack of alternatives

Tips: These are good questions to know whether there is really a

need for your product or service
Solution
Q1. Describe the solution

Uber is an on-demand car service mobile app for commuters who want to reach
their destination with minimal waiting time. It is accessible via mobile as long as
you have internet connection. In the app you can choose modes of transportation
based on your budget, how many passengers, how many destinations/drops. Users
can also rate their experience with their booked drivers and save their frequent
destinations to their device like their workplace. They can also send tips to drivers
using the app and know their drivers’ profiles to ensure their safety.

Tip: Be as detailed as possible, use the attachment feature if

you need more supporting materials.
Solution
Q2. What is the benefit (pain or gain) of the solution?

Uber, being an on demand service, will guarantee users to book a transport at

anytime of the day. It also provides the contact information and real time location
of the driver to the user so that the passenger expect the ETA of the driver.

Rating system will incentivize both passengers and drivers to improve their
conduct/behaviour during the ride.

Uber is very flexible for low budget passengers allowing them to choose between
being a solo passenger or share a ride with other passengers to save on fare cost

Tip: Focus on the benefits of the solution from the description

from the previous question.
Solution
Q3. What differentiates your product/service to existing practice?

This is an ON DEMAND service via a mobile app which will be very convenient for
passengers, no need to go out and hail a taxi.

Uber vs Fleet owners: Drivers can easily be on boarded. Uber does not need to own
the fleet of taxi to provide service. Drivers are not bound to a boundary system, but
will share a commission once they complete a ride.

Tip: Focus on your selling point

Solution
Q4. In what ways is the innovation user friendly?

The app is available and easy to install on all mobile platforms (Android and iOS).

The user can choose different payment options by either cash, credit/debit card, top
ups, or other online payment services.
Solution
Q5. What is the social impact of the innovation? State the SDGs and impact indicator it
represents.

● SDG 8 - Decent work and economic growth: USA has an unemployment rate of 3.68%. With the help of Uber, anyone
who can drive and has a car can apply as an Uber driver whether full time or part time. This can be an alternative
source of income, thus giving Uber drivers to become workers providing personal driving services.

● SDG 11 - Sustainable cities and communities: Uber can help improve the transport structure of the country by
offering an alternative to public utility vehicles such as taxis and subways. Taxis spend about 35% of their time
looking for rides. With Uber, idle time of drivers in between passengers will be reduced to 5 minutes.

Tips: State the SDG being addressed. Better if you can provide
social statistics that can be improved by your product/service.
Solution
Q6. What is the economic impact of the innovation?

Anyone who can drive and has a car can apply as an Uber driver whether full time or part time.
This can be an alternative source of income. It is faster to connect the passenger to the driver,
and vice versa, making drivers’ route more efficient with less idle time.

Q7. What is the environmental impact of the innovation?

Unlike regular taxis, Uber can offer carpool services to multiple passengers with different
destinations. This reduces carbon dioxide emissions compared to riding one taxi per solo
passenger.

Tips: Better if you can provide social/economic/environmental

statistics that can be improved by your product/service.
Solution
Q8. What are the key performance indicators to measure the success of the solution
(Please provide quantitative metrics if possible)

● Number of downloads
● Number of app openings
● Waiting time of passengers to be picked up by driver
● Number of successful rides vs cancellations
● Number of new passengers and drivers registered

Tips: As a CEO, this is what you will monitor once you launch
your product / service
Market
Q1. What is the business opportunity? How big is the market (share some statistics or
insights)?

● In 2019, about 9.9 billion trips were made by Americans using public
transportation, where 22% use taxi as their mode of transportation.
● On average, they spend about USD 780 annually on public transportation

Tips: Give statistics on your target market

Market
Q2. How and where are you going to sell it?

We will start in San Francisco and New York and on board our first 100 drivers. We
will also demonstrate the app to the people and let them download it so that they
can start using it. After this we will expand to LA, Chicago, Houston, Pennsylvania,
and Dallas.

Tips: Just a glimpse on how you plan to market your product /

service
Market
Q3. How would you make this innovation sustainable? Share business model if applicable.

Every time a ride is completed, Uber gets a small service (10%) fee for brokering the
driver and the passenger

Tips: Most common way to make a product/service sustainable

is through its profits. For non profit, donations / contributions
from direct / indirect beneficiaries
Market
Q4. Why would customers pay for your service?

For the passenger, it provides safe and convenient ride.

For the drivers, it is easier to get passengers via the app. Rewards are given to
drivers with multiple successful rides.

Tip: include all of your customers who will use your product /
services.
Purpose
Q1. What challenges did you experience leading to the innovation? What was the “AHA”
moment?

It happened when we attended the LeWeb conference in Paris last 2008. One snowy
night when we were about to go back to our hotel after the conference, we weren’t
able to hail a taxi. During that time, we asked ourselves “What if you could request a
ride simply by tapping your phone?”. Since then, we started developing the idea of
Uber.

Tips: This is where we see how passionate the team will be

with their product / service
