HUMAN MIGRATION

First, let´s define what is migration? Migration is a way to move from one place to another in order to live
and work. I want to emphasize that the first migration in human history were probably voluntary, other
migrations have been involuntary, which means that people were forced to travel. Let me stress that people
chose to leave their birthplace in search of food, water, or living space.

Second, why do people migrate? People migrate for many different reasons. These reasons can be
classified as economic, social, political, or environmental:

economic migration – is moving to find work or follow a particular career path. For example, they may
have moved to another country to enhance their career opportunities.
social migration -is moving somewhere for a better quality of life or to be closer to family or friends. Other
factor attracting people migrate is when they are persecuted for being members of a specific ethnic group.
political migration -is moving to escape political persecution or war. For instance, some people must have
migrated due to war or famine. Such as Cubans Flee Communism.
Environmental migration causes of migration include natural disasters such as flooding and climate
change.

Third, what are the causes of Migration? Nowadays, many people decide to migrate to have a
better life. It is important to note that employment opportunities are the most common reason due to
which people migrate. Except this, lack of opportunities, better education, construction of dams,
globalization, and natural disaster.

Fourth, what are the impacts of Migration? Migration can have positive as well as negative
effects on the life of the migrants. I find that quite surprising.
The Positive Impacts are:
 Unemployment is reduced and people get better job opportunities.
 Migration helps in improving the quality of life of people.
 The migration of skilled workers leads to a greater economic growth of the region.
 Children get better opportunities for higher education.
While the Negative Impacts are:
 It is difficult for a villager to survive in urban areas because in urban areas there is no natural
environment and pure air. They have to pay for each and everything.
 Poverty makes them unable to live normal and healthy life.
 Sometimes migrants are exploited.
I would like to point out that we had in history of human migration 5 Major Migrations Movements
1. From Rural China to Urban Centers
Date: 1976 - Ongoing
Estimated Migrants to date: 160 million.
2. India to Pakistan
Date: 1947-50
Estimated Migrants: 15 million.
Death Toll: 1 million.
3. Resettlement of Europe after Soviet Domination
Date: After World War II
Estimated Population displaced: 12 million Germans.
4. Europe and Rest of the World to Israel
              Date: 1882 - Ongoing (Majorly 1948 - 2000)
Estimated Migrants to Date: 3.6 million.
5.  Afghanistan to Pakistan
• Date: 1980s
• Estimated Migrants: 2.58 million.

To sum up, it is clear that migration can be beneficial for migrants, but only if their rights are protected
properly. It can also be economically beneficial for both countries of origin and host countries; however, with
present economic and trading structures it is the rich and powerful countries that benefit most. Migration
brings social and cultural pressures that need to be taken into account in planning for future services. I
strongly approve of Migration has the potential for bringing peoples together culturally, however, friction
occurs if efforts are not made to dispel negative myths held by local people. It would be wonderful to provide
good information about the local way of life to newcomers and ensure opportunities for people to mix and
integrate.
