Explain the history of PUBG?
PUBG or Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds needs no introduction. These days it is the most
famous mobile game that is being played. It happens with most successful stories as the
journey to the peak wasn’t that simple. Behind this amazing game, most people don’t even
know the name of the man. We are going to know how PUBG originated and who created it.
The guy behind PUBG is 33 years old Brendan Greene. He belongs to Ireland and has
worked as a photographer and web developer in Brazil before becoming an internet sensation
with this game. After working for a short period of time in Brazil, he decided to switch back
to his country and in 2013 and got interested in Day which was a mod of open world military
simulator “Aram 2”. This made him create a mod of his own for days’ which was inspired by
“Battle Royale”, a Japanese movie. He replaced the Zombies with people against whom the
gamer has to fight to survive. Brendan learned to code while creating his mod and it was the
time when very first version of PUBG was created. It became popular very quickly as days’
was already a favorite of gamers. Soon, his work attention of Sony Entertainment and they
hired Brendan as a consultant for designing the Battle Royale mod for H1Z1. Interestingly,
when the work got completed, Brendan’s mod was endorsed as a separate game: “H1Z1:
King of the Kill”.
In 2015, South Korean studio Bluehole Ginno games contacted Brendan. He became their
creative director and started working on a new game in 2016. The South Korean studio
wanted to take advantage of the fact that Battle Royale genre was not much popular in the
country at that time, so they wanted to be the first to come up with it. PUBG was released in
2017 and has become a part of our life.
This is another example that shows that there is nothing like an overnight success. If
someone achieves big, most of the times, there is a story full of failures. Even if someone
manages to reach the top without those difficulties, maintaining success becomes an issue.
As PUBG is banned in India, gamers have already started to look for its alternative and
though it’s a big shock but into the long run this can bring a lot of new opportunities to the
games making companies in India.
