Subject: lnternship scheme for students in Coal lndia and Subsidiary.

CIL Board in its 421st Meeting held on 10th May 2021 approved "lnternship scheme for
students in Coal lndia and Subsidiary" for imparting internship to students undergoing
graduate/post graduate degree from the recoBnised U n ivers ity/lnstitution or young
unemployed professional who had obtained their qualification within two year of the date of
application.

The scheme will help the students and young professional to have an understanding of
industrial working system in CIL and its Subsidiary and Companies will get benefitted from
new idea emerging from these young talents. A Copy of the approved scheme is enclosed for
implementation.

Development of online internship portal is in process, link of the same will be provided on CIL
website. Application and selection of candidates will sta rt when the portal is fully operationa l.

- An initiative to foster healthy Academy lndustry lnterface in CIL


obiective:
. To allow students undergoing Graduate / Postgraduate degrees from recognised

Un iversity/ln stitutio ns within lndia or young unemployed professionals who have

obtained their qualification within two years from the date of application will be given

an opportunity to be associated with CIL and its subsidiaries for getting practical
training in various subject verticals.
o The scheme will help students and young professionals to have an understanding of
lndustrial working system in CIL and its Subsidiaries and the Company will get
benefitted from the new ideas emerging from these young talents.
ElisibiliW:
. Students undergoing courses/ Young professionals can apply provided their
colleges/institutes made upto 80th rank for Engineering, upto 40th rank for
Management and upto 15th rank for Law in the latest ranking of National lnstitutional

Ranking Framework (NIRK), Ministry of Human Resource, Gol.

Note: Students from reputed Foreign Universities could be considered on case to case

basis as decided by Chairman, ClL.

. For Chartered Accountant/Cost Accountant candidates, those clearing final


examination in one attempt will only be considered.
. Students^oung Professionals with following q ua lifications/specializations will be

. They must have secured 70% or more cumulative marks in their Engineering or
Management degrees and 55% in Law and C A degrees till the date of application.
Weightage will be given to the candidates with achievements in Extra Curricular
Activities at National or lnternational level.

. Young professionals who have completed their qualification and are not employed can

apply within two years (applicable from the next month of result declaration) from

date of application. For example, if the final result of the candidate is declared on 25th

June 2020, then he will eligible to apply from 1st July 2020 to 30th June 2022".

Selection procedure:

lnterested applicants may apply online giving required details including Aadhar and
PAN Card numbers on the link provided in the Coal lndia Limited website within the
prescribed timeline. The link will be opened twice in a financial year for one month at

six monthly intervals, preferably in the month of January and July. The candidate shall

apply six months in advance from the expected month of starting the internship.

Applicants will be required to select pre-defined subject vertical from the list (Attached

as Annexure A), and fill in their preference for subsidiary and proposed duration of the
project. The candidate can also suggest topic under the chosen/selected subject
vertical. Suggested topic and duration of the project will not be binding on the
company and decision of the subsidiary company will be final in this regard. Local
Management may add or withdraw subject verticals as per their requirement and
there will be no guarantee to grant internship to any candidate.

A subsidiary can maximum have projects under 3 subject verticals in each discipline in

a cycle and a maximum of 25 students in a 6 months' cycle. The online system will be
developed accordingly for candidates to give their preference for Subsidiary/Topic.

All applications received online will be automatically made available to the concerned

subsidiary where the decision will be taken by the respective FD of the concerned

subsidiaries by preparing a merit panel based on ranking ofthe lnstitute (weighage-50


marks), cumulative marks of the candidate (weightage-30 marks) and extra-curricular

activities (weightage-20 marks), (if any). lf there is a tie, the younger candidate will be
preferred. Result will be published within 6 weeks of last date for submitting online

application. The entire process will be coordinated by the HoD of HRD Department of

CIL/Su bsid ia ries


The list of selected candidates along with their subject vertical, duration of the
internship and project locator will be uploaded on the CIL website by respective
subsidiary company.

ln the cycle of 6 months, if a candidate selected doesn't join by stipulated time and
other eligible candidates are available, then the next in merit list could be considered.

Candidates will be allowed to undergo internship after verification of credentials and

submission of NOC from their college/institute, if still studying, by the concerned


subsidia ry company.

Normally not more than 3 candidates will be selected against a subject vertical.
Howevei the number for a subject vertical in subsidiary/Cll could be increased at the
discretion of CMD, CIL on reference /recommendation from CMD of Subsidiary or
D(P&rR),CrL.

Other Silent feat ures of the operation of the Scheme:

Duration: lnternship period can range from 2 months to maximum of 6 months as per
the requirement of the identified project as decided by concerned FD of
CIL/Subsidiary.

No. of candidates: Normally one candidate for a project, but company can put more

candidates for a project if the nature of the same warrant, upto a maximum of 3

candidates. A project guide, not below the level of E-7 Grade executive, will be

assigned to a subject vertical and all candidates under a subject vertical will report to

him/her.

Stipend: Stipend of Rs 30,000/- will be paid to student per month till the completion

of the project. For period less than a month, pro-rata basis payment would be made.

Candidates will have to submit their Bank A/C, Aadhar No. and Pan No. for release of
payment.

Certificate: Candidates will be presented a Certificate on successful completlon of the


project/assignment by the HoD of HRD Department of concerned company. ln case of

any extraordinary achievement by the student, the same will be mentioned in the

certificate.
Confidential Nature of Documents and lnformation: The students shall not
disclose/publish any documents/information that relates to subject matter assigned

to him/her by CIL/Su bsid ia ries. Use of company name, logo or official seal, without
written permission of ClL,/Subsidiary, shall be prohibited.
Accommodation: Stay arrangements in furnished rooms (Hostel or Transit Camp on
sharing basis) will be provided to students on free of cost basis. Howevet they would

have to pay for their meals etc. as per the prevailing charges/rates.

Logistics: Students will have to bring their own mobile phone, laptop with internet
connectivity. Stationary items, internet connectivity (to the extent possible) will be
provided by the subsidiary company.

Transportation: Limited transport facility for project work needing travel to remote
areas will be arranged by the company. Female candidates would not be allowed to

stay after 6 PM and in case the work so requires, her safe transportation will be the

responsibillty of the Project Guide.

Location: Project location will depend on the topic for which the student is selected

for and he/she will have to operate as per the need of the project only. Concerned FD

of the subsidiary in consultation with HoD (HRD) of subsidiary will decide, if student
can work away from workplace depending on the nature of project. To the extent
possible, female candidates will not be given project work needing to be present at

remote locations otherwise necessary arrangements will be made by the company, if


so decided.

Termination: The internship can be terminated anytime by the company without prior

notice and without assigning any reason by paying stipend for 10 days. Howevet in the

normal course it will provide 10 days' notice to the candidate. Declsion of Director
(Pers) of CIL/Concerned Subsidiary will be considered as final in this regard. A Student
ca n also leave the Internship by giving prior notice of 10 working days to the HoD (H RD)

of CIL/Subsidiary.

No certificate shall be awarded to such students who leave the internship mid-way

without completion of the project and stipend will be paid to them only on pro-rata
basis for the period of their attendance.

Extension: lnternship period once agreed will not be extended on any ground. ln case

of seeking extension, the internship offered would be terminated.

Review: Afte years from the scheme is put into operation, it will be reviewed and
modificatio anges/alterations etc. will be suitably incorporated by obtaining
approval of Competent Authority. Based on experience gained and feedback
received, t m will be improved suitably.
For any interpretation of terms and condition of the scheme D(P&lR),

CIL will be t nal authority.
