Leadership Styles are the behavioral patterns that a leader employs to control the actions

of his followers, such as how he/she issues orders to his subordinates and motivates them to
achieve the goals set. And the manner in which guidance is given, strategies are implemented,
and people are motivated.

In leadership, there are three (3) styles, the Authoritarian Leadership Style, Democratic
Leaders, and the Laissez-Faire Leaders. Firstly, the Authoritarian Leadership Style, the leader
makes all of the decisions and is encouraged to finish the task as quickly and efficiently as
possible. This leadership style is "authoritarian," meaning it disregards the group's views and
desires. The autocratic leader refuses to share authority and is only concerned with group success
and achievement. When immediate decisions are required, this style will be the most effective.
The best example of this is the referee, because it gives a quick decision during a game.
Secondly, the Democratic leaders have tendencies to share in the group decisions and are also
prepared to assign responsibility. This style of leadership is committed to interaction and wants
to build positive interpersonal ties within the team. For example, the team leader asks the team
what to do or what could be the plan to achieve the team’s goal in a game. And lastly, the
Laissez-Faire leaders try to give less assistance or feedback and allow team members to decide
independently. For example, athletes are mature and trained, so they don't have to be told all the
time what to do. Another example, an athlete who seems to have a chance to improve their skills
and make their own decisions. Among the three styles of leadership, I would choose the
democratic leadership style, because the team members take a more active role in the process of
decision-making. Where everyone has the opportunity to contribute, opinions are openly shared
and a disagreement is supported. For me, this style was the most effective style of leadership
because it values collaboration and affirmation of a team. This leadership style also promotes
team interaction, commitment and participation.

In generalization, sports leaders encourage the team by maintaining a good attitude, high
moral standards and a continuous desire towards goals. As a leader, they are also a risk taker
where they certainly make some mistakes along the way and where they learn from them and
make improvements. Being decisive is one of an effective leader’s roles where they have the
responsibility of making the best decision to achieve the goal of a team. An effective leader also
listens and respects others' opinions towards the plan in the team so that the goal/objectives are
improved in the best way.
