CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design employed, sources of

data, data gathering tool and procedure and statistical treatment of the

data gathered.

Research Design

The descriptive research design will be employed in this study.

Descriptive research determines and interprets what is the level of work

values of the faculty of Ilocos Sur National High School.

Population of the Study

The respondents of the study were the faculty members and

students of Ilocos Sur National High School. The sample of the study

consists of ( ) faculty members of the senior high school and the students

of Accountancy Business and Management Strand.This sample will be

pick through the use of non probability sampling.

Data Gathering Instrument

The researcher will used a two questionnaire in gathering the

needed information for this study. For the faculty questionnaire, it consists

of three parts: Part I asked the respondents’ age, sex, civil status,

educational attainment, geographical location of origin, length of teaching

experience, membership in organization, and religious affiliation. Part II will

be used to determine the level of personality traits of the faculty. For this

purpose, the researcher adopted a self-appraisal rating scale. Part III will

be used to determine the level of work values of the respondents. It is

recognized into two: a) Intrinsic work values has six items asking the

respondents feeling toward their work regarding achievement,

competence, recognition, relationship with pupils, and pride in work; b)

Extrinsic work values has also six items asking the respondents feeling

toward their work regarding economic security, involvement in decision

making, professional relationship, civic involvement, power and authority,

and chances for promotion.

For the students, the questionnaire consists of two parts. Part I

gathered information about the respondents’ age, gender and year level.

Part II was questionnaire used to gather information about the level of work

values of the faculty.

The respondents were guided by the following scale in answering

the questionnaire for personality traits and work values.

4 - Very Good

3 - Average

2 - Fair

1 - Poor

To interpret the average score on each dimension of the personality

trait the researcher set the following norms of interpretation:

To interpret the average score on each dimension of the work values

the researcher set the following norms of interpretation:

1.51.- 2.50 Not So Important (NSI)

1.00 - 1.50 Not Important (NI)

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher requested the permission from the Principal to

conduct her study in the school and administer the questionnaire to the

faculty and students. Upon the approval of the Principal, the researcher

coordinated with the Senior High School Assistant Principal for Academics

and the Subject Group Heads.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The following tools were utilized to analyze the data gathered:

1. Frequency count and percentage described the profile of the

Respondents.

2. Weighted Mean measured the level of personality traits and work

values of the faculty.

3. Pearson Product Moment of Correlation was used to determine

the relationship between the personality traits of the faculty and

their work values.

4. T-test for independent samples was used to measure the

significant difference on the work values of the faculty and

students.

All inferential statistics used the 0.05 level of significance.
