Course Materials
Required: Chemistry: The Central Science by T.L. Brown, H. E. Le May, B. E. Bursten, C.J. Murphy, P. M. Woodward, M. W.
Stoltzfus Pearson, 13th Ed.
Attendance Policies
Attendance is not mandatory. However, the best place for learning is the classroom. Past experience has shown that the students
who attend the classes get higher grades. Moreover, we may cover additional material in the class that is not covered in the
textbook. Therefore, we, as the instructors of CHEM 102 strongly recommend you to attend the classes.
Grading Policy
First Midterm 07 March 2020 /10:00 a.m. 25%
Second Midterm 04 April 2020/ 10:00 a.m. 25%
Final TBA 35%
Laboratory work 15%

All sections will take common exams. Most of the exams will be over the material that is covered since the last exam. However,
the course builds on the material that has been delivered earlier. So, the concepts; calculations and techniques from earlier exams
may be required. The Final Exam will cover the work of the entire semester.
Make-Up Exams: No excuse except medical report taken from State Hospital and Medical Center of METU. The medical report
must cover the exam date and it must be at least for 2 days. The report has to be approved by the Medical center of METU if it is
taken from the State Hospital. The student must deliver the report to the instructor within 5 days after the exam. We do not
accept Regional “Sağlık Ocağı”. There will be only 1 make-up exam at the end of the semester covering all the chapters.
NA Grade: If you do not satisfy the following conditions, you will get NA grade:
1. The final exam is required for every student who wants to receive credit for this course.
2. To be eligible to take the final exam, the average of your 1st and 2nd midterms should be minimum 25/100.
3. The student gets “0” from 2 experiments; he/she cannot take the final exam and fails both from the lab. and course. Keep in
mind that a student can take maximum 2 make-ups, if he/she has a medical report.
4. The total lab grade obtained is less than 50% (or below 30 out of 60). If you are repeating this course your previous lab. grade
has to be higher than 30 otherwise you have to repeat the lab.
