4 E3 - Installation Guide
E3 software has two types of installation: Complete or E3 Viewer only (for
client stations) installation.

COMPLETE INSTALLATION
1. Plug the hardkey into the parallel or USB port of your computer.
2. Insert the Installation CD in the drive. Follow the instructions on the
screen.
3. An "Installation Complete" message will appear when the installation
is finished. A program group called “Elipse E3” will be created at
Windows Start Menu.
In case the installer does not execute automatically, open the
file to install E3 including the demo application or to install
only the E3 software. These files are in the root directory of the Installation CD.

VIEWER INSTALLATION (CLIENT)

1. Insert the Installation CD in the drive. Open
for Windows 2000, 2003, NT 4.0 or XP installation. Open
for Windows 98 or ME installation.
2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
3. A “Installation Complete” message will appear when the installation is
finished. A program group called “Elipse E3” will be created in the
Windows Start Menu.
The hardkey is not needed for the E3 Viewer installation.

E3 WEBVIEWER INSTALLATION
E3 WebViewer is a web client that allows viewing and controlling E3
applications in browsers that support ActiveX technology, such as Internet
Explorer. Thus, it is possible to view and interact with a factory floor process
through a regular web browser. For that, it is necessary that this license is
enabled in the hardkey. In case it is not, it is not possible to use E3 WebViewer.
After being installed, E3 WebViewer works exactly like the Viewer,
downloading the application.
To use E3 WebViewer, it is necessary to specify Server’s configuations,
according to the following procedures.

E3 - Installation Guide 5
SERVER’S CONFIGURATION
You will have to install a web server in the server computer to run the
scripts of E3WebViwer controll page correctly. Any web server can be used, as
long as it runs asp pages. The following procedures explain how to install IIS
(Internet Information Services), which is the web server coming with Windows.
To install IIS, follow the steps described below:
1. Open ;
2. Access the option !
3. Click " # $ !
4. Select the item % " & (IIS) and click ' (;
"
5. The system starts software intallation (to install IIS, it is necessary to
have Windows’ installation CD). Wait for the end of the process to
configure the system.

IIS’s Configuration
Along with E3 installation, a file is sent: # ) $(located in the directory
where E3 was installed, in WEB folder). This file should be placed in the
directory * + ,)+### , which is created when IIS is installed. Apart
from file, you should also place Viewer’s installers. This installer is used
when the client station accesses the server for the first time, in case E3 had not
been previously installed in it. They are: E3-w2kWebviewer.exe for
Windows 2000, 2003, NT 4.0 and XP e E3-w98Webviewer.exe for Windows
98 and ME. These two files come with E3’s installation CD.
After the files are placed in the folder C:\InetPub\wwwroot, it is
necessary to configure the page E3web.htm as the main page. For this, follow
these procedures:
1. Access - "" " . ;
2. Click Internet Information Services, when using Windows XP, or
Internet Services Manager, when using Windows 2000 or 2003.

E3 - Installation Guide 7
If E3web.asp file does not appear, you can add it by clicking the button
[ 0. After these procedures, the client station will be able to access the http
server through Internet Explorer.

E3web.asp file
E3web.asp file contains information about E3 Server, as follows: what
server E3 domain is running and where are localized the E3 WebViewer
installation files.
For domain configuration, this document is configured considering that E3
Server will run on the same computer, which is the Web server. In case you
want to use E3 Server on another computer, you should alter the following line:
<param name = "Domain" value = "\\<%=
Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_NAME")%>\">
to:
<param name = "Domain" value = "\\ServerName">
where ServerName is the name of the computer running E3 Server.
The document also verifies what the operational system is running and what
E3 version is active. It is necessary to make the automatic update. The
E3WebServer files will be downloaded from the Web server.

8 E3 - Installation Guide
VIEWING ON CLIENT APPLICATION
If the server is using the web server, such as IIS for example, just type the
server’s address or ip on address bar (e.g.: http://nameofserver,
http://192.0.0.21).
In the first access to the server, the browser will start installing the
components, in case they had not been previously instaled, as seen in the
beginning of this chapter. The component is signed by “Elipse Software”, and
the user should accept the installation, so that it starts the necessary
configurations.

Picture 3: Viewer Installation

In the following access, it will not be necessary to install the components,

and connection time will be faster.
NOTE: Client version should be the same as the server’s. For this, the
installers (E3-w2kViewer-us.exe and E3-w98Viewer-us.exe) in the
server should always be updated.

E3 - Installation Guide 9
Periodically, Elipse releases new software versions, which contain new tools
and/or updating. Such updating can be obtained through common media (disk
or CD-ROM), or through the site www.elipse.com.br. There are also demo
versions of the system available. To update the Windows version, follow these
steps:
1. Purchase the updating of the version of the system through the disks,
CD-ROM or download it on the site of Elipse;
2. Follow the procedures on the screen and wait for the finalization. If
you already have a version of Elipse SCADA installed, the installer
will ask you if you want to remove the older version. The message
“Installation completed” will appear if the process was successful.

Reproduce the problem
Reproducing the problem is the first step to solving it. Once you are able to
reproduce the problem, you can start finding solutions for it. The following
questions may give you more insight into the problem:
Does the problem occur with just one application? You may want to try
another application to see if you can reproduce the problem with it. If you
cannot reproduce the problem with other applications, think about what is
specific about this application.
Does the problem occur just with your machine? If it does, it may be related
to your system’s configuration. Try using a different video driver, or even
modifying your system’s configuration to see if the problem persists. It is
advisable to have a machine with configurations not much different from the
average.
Which E3 version are you using? You can check the version of your
software using the About command at Help menu. Applications generated in
older versions of E3 are totally compatible with more recent versions; however,
applications generated in more recent versions cannot be edited or executed in
older versions of E3.
Under which circumstances does the problem occur? Does the amount of
available memory affect the problem? How about the other programs running
in the system? Is there sufficient space available on the disk drive?

Isolate the problem

After checking under which circumstances the problem occurs, you will be
able to isolate it. Once the problem is isolated, it is much easier and quicker to
find possible solutions for it.
Try isolating the component that is causing the problem. You can use the
information about under which conditions it is produced to help isolate the
component.
If the problem occurs with a script, you may want to try to create a minor
example. If it is too large try splitting it, and executing it step by step.
