Emergence of Work and Family Issues

All the employees have dimensions of life consisting of work life and family life. The present emerging
issue in HR management is to maintain balance between work life and family life of the employees. The
development education system brings changes in value, belief, attitude and learning of the people. Even
in developing countries like Nepal many women are started to with in various corporate institutions as
professional staff.

Work life balance facilities for job satisfaction and good functionally at work as well as at home which
helps to minimize stress and conflicts. Generally, life balance involves three components consisting of
time balance, involvement balance and satisfaction balance. Time balance refers to equal time levels of
psychological involvement in both work roles and non-work roles. Similar satisfaction balance refers to
equal levels of satisfaction both work roles family roles. When an imbalance occurs between work and
family roles for an individuals this can result in conflict which creates the problems of stress.

Requirement of Work life Balance

The following are the common requirement of good work life balance.

1) Flexible work schedule

HR managers can use some positively address work life balance measures for the
employees. These measures involve provision of part tie working, flexi time, job sharing, home
working, facility to choose the shifts etc.

2) Attractive working environment

Improvement in working environment can enhance morale and value of employees.
Some common measures for making the working environment attractive are proper layout of
furniture, machines and equipment excess space for movement, subsidized canteens, childcare
facility etc.

3) Other arrangement

Other policies that make it easier for employees to balance work and the rest of their lives
include unpaid career breaks, paid vacation schemes, maternity and parental leaves etc. These are a
cost effective way to retain valued staff and for their long services.
