Galeri Shah Alam

▪ On January 26, 1991, the Shah Alam Gallery was created under the Darul Ehsan Selangor
Art Foundation's supervision.
▪ On July 6, 1991, His Highness Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj declared it open.
▪ His Highness Sultan was the inspiration for the Selangor Art Foundation Darul Ehsan, as he
was an artist himself.
▪ The Honorable His Royal Highness Selangor, YM Raja Zahabuddin Raja Yaacob (Prof. Dato),
Syed Ahmad Jamal (Datuk), Tuan Haji Mohd Musa Ideris, and Mr. Kassim Ali (Dato (Dr))
met with experts in the fields of art and design, sculpture, and law to plan His Royal
Highness Selangor's inspiration in drafting the function and establishment of the SRC.
▪ Maimuna Deraman designed a typical Malay origin shaped structure for the Office of
Culture and Tourism of the State of Selangor in the early 1980s.The Shah Alam City
Council later renovated the building to make it more conducive to the Shah Alam
Gallery's art activities.
▪ The building's design features traditional Malay design, which is in line with Shah Alam
Gallery's goals.
▪ It is in keeping with attempts to raise arts awareness, comprehension, and appreciation
while integrating the multicultural community in Selangor's efforts to popularise the
country's visual and liberal arts.
▪ The Shah Alam Gallery, located in the heart of Shah Alam city centre, is an arts centre
and tourism destination in the Klang Valley.
▪ The building is magnificent, with design refinement of traditional Malay architecture,
and it is surrounded by lakes and parks, which add to the beauty of the 'art'. It also
provides a safe and comfortable environment, which may draw visitors to Shah Alam
Gallery.
▪ A blend of 'typographic' and figurative soft reliefs served as inspiration for the logo.
The logo is based on the letter "SS," which stands for "Art of Selangor," and was
produced in an abstract shape to emphasise creative and aesthetic characteristics.
▪ It also depicts the Selangor Art Foundation's role and function in encouraging the
growth of visual and liberal arts in the state.
▪ Create a permanent collection of galleries
▪ - Obtain visual artwork (painting, painting, sketches, sculptures, prints, textile
photography and more) from well-known painters from the country to the present
as a permanent collection. Acquisition of overseas works was also undertaken in an
effort to enhance the Gallery's collections.
▪ Organize the exhibition
▪ -Have regular exhibitions by inviting our local artist either solo or in group.
Exhibitions from artists and art institutions from abroad were also held to provide
opportunities for the local community to evaluate and refer to art development
globally.
▪ Host a competition
▪ -As a way to hone and encourage new artist in visual arts competitions such as art,
photography and graphic arts competitions at schools, universities and college,
district area, state and national.
▪ Art education
▪ -Programs such as art tutoring, sculpture, textile and photography classes for
children, adolescents and adults are being implemented in line with the central
role of the Shah Alam Gallery in providing arts education to those who are
interested.
▪ Research and References
▪ -Provides reference material for studies such as books, magazines, exhibition
catalogs, photographs and slides, pamphlets related to the national and
international visual arts arena.
▪ Cooperation program
▪ -Organize programs with national art galleries, state museums, state art museums, local
art galleries, domestic and international art institutions, government and private
departments, public and private institutions of higher learning and foreign countries to
ensure arts programs can be implemented successfully.
▪ Charter
▪ -Always ready to entertain, assist and provide information to art employees, painters,
activists and art lovers.
▪ -Respond to inquiries relating to collections or collection information within 7 working
days.
▪ -Always be aware of the need to host exhibitions accordingly. Organize an open gallery
gallery as an annual activity.
▪ -In addition, additional programs such as drawing competitions, workshops, drawing
classes, seminars, symposiums, conferences, lectures and talks were also held.
▪ Make Shah Alam a City of Art to popularize the country's visual and liberal arts.
▪ To be the driving force in the development and activities of visual arts as well as
various branches of liberal arts education in the state of Selangor in particular and
Malaysia in general.
▪ It serves as an arts reference center for students, public and private institutions of
higher learning as well as sharing experiences with cultural arts practitioners
especially young people.
▪ It is a center for exhibiting the work of artists and designers as well as a tourist
destination.
▪ It will be a center for future generations of art treasures.
▪ Develop a cultural appreciation of art through exhibitions, poetry readings,
discussions and more.

▪ The Shah Alam Gallery provides three
exhibition spaces to accommodate various
exhibitions, the following is the width of the
exhibition space:
▪ i) Gallery 1 - Main exhibit space with a size of
3,145k / sq
▪ ii) Gallery 2 - Exhibition space with 1413k / sq
▪ ii) Gallery 3 - Exhibition space with 1491k / sq
▪ The Shah Alam Gallery Open Stage
▪ -Provides space for rent for activities such as art festivals, art installations,
performing arts, poetry, theater, festivals, weddings, dinners, family and various
activities.
