Part I: Quick Start


This manual assist you for an easy setup of CERSA products in your factory in order to collect
and display data over CIM software.

For advance configuration, please refer to the User's Manual.

Install Instruments

1 Install Instruments
Mount the instruments in production line or place it in laboratory desk.
Install accessories like wire sample rotation (WSR) or foot pedal if required.
Plug in air supply for the instrument if necessary.
Connects digital input output instrument interface with your process control system.
Connects BNC analog outputs with your process control system.
Connects RS232 instrument interface with the PC.
Keep in mind the PC COM port used for each instrument.
Plug in power supply for the instrument.

2 CIM startup
Install CIM

Your instrument has been delivered with CERSA-MCI USB drive (blue color).
Launch the setup manually from you drive at the following location: USB drive:\Setup\CIM.exe
Follow step by step the setup procedure displayed on the screen.

Protection key

Plug the USB protection dongle (green color) to benefit the full production and laboratory
features. Refer to key protection in CIM manual.

Configure CIM

Launch CIM software.


Enter the "supervisor" password.

3 Add connexions
Add your connexions (CERSA instruments) in the connexions manager interface.

1- Click on the "Connexions manager" in main panel.

2- Click on Add instrument

3- Choose your instrument type (LDS 1 axis in this example).


4- To use serial communication choose RS232 connexion type and choose the
communication port where your instrument is connected (COM1 in this example).
5- To use with ethernet comunication choose TCP connexion type and fill the network
adress including the port number in format "XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:PORT"
6- Choose the type of connexion:

Production

Laboratory
7- Add the instrument.
8- The instrument is added in the connexions table. The status can be either ok or warning:

Ok: The instrument is measuring without any problem.

Warning: for example if the temperature is not stable or the user don't put any product to measure.

See "Connexion Manager" in CIM manual for more information about additional configuration.

Once the connexions setup finish you can configure printer for reports, line name, file record
location, product tolerances and use manual controls to begin the production.

4.1 Global configuration


1. Open preference panel.

2. Configure CIM ID if you have more than one instance of CIM in your factory. Different ID for
each computer.
3. Open report configuration interface.

4. Select the printer to be used for reports.

4.2 Line setup


1. Open line manager interface.

2. Select the line in the interface.


3. Configure the name of your line.
4. Enable data file record.

4.3 Product tolerances


1. Open main window.

2. Select the parameter manager tab.


3. Select the tab of the instrument. Here in the example LDS.
4. Select the Tolerance and detection tab.
5. Set the nominal value and high - low relative limits for the dimension that you want to control. In
this example the diameter.

4.4 Production controls


1. Click on production tab.
2. Open controls pad with the bottom bar button.
3. Open production controls window.

4. Click on set production button.

5. Set batch name and spool identifier

4.5 Display results


1. In the graph area are displayed the measures according to the time or length.
2. In the left side of the graph is displayed the measure axis with reference values. If hidden, click
on the top measures axis table to make it appears.
3. In the right side of the graph are displayed the values of nominal, warning and out of
tolerances. Tolerances are also displayed in the graph by horizontal lines.
o Out of tolerance with fat line
o Warning tolerances with dashed line.
o Nominal with dot dashed line.

4. If out of tolerances occurs an event is displayed in the bottom graph as line:
5. If a problem occurs a point is displayed4 in the bottom graph
5 in the status line.
6. In the right side of the window are displayed the real time measures values and out of
tolerances alarms:
7. The status of the connexion is displayed in the top right side of the main window.
