DPSB:RG:Parental circular/19-20/27 16 December 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians

Greetings!

DPS Bhilai strives hard to make both of its campuses safe and secure. The safety and security of the
children under our care is our priority and prime responsibility.

In the age of technology, group conversations through messaging service, WhatsApp, have become
common place as a way for parents. But of late it has been observed that in some cases the exchanges
have become sinister, spreading falsehoods.

As and when the school receives complaints on various issues based on the child’s version or
otherwise, the authorities try to resolve them at the earliest. However, it is regretted to observe that
in most of the cases, after verification, no truth was found behind the same. The parents are
therefore, advised and requested to refrain from forwarding such messages or discussing such issues
in the open forum, unless verified by them.

The management would appreciate that the parents/guardians approach the school authorities with
their problems and issues, if any, which as always would be given precedence over other matters.

Your cooperation is solicited.

With warm regards

Subject: Khushi Gupta, class XI student selected for AIM-Sirius Deep Technology Learning and
Innovation Programme for high school at Sirius Centre, Sochi, Russia

Dear parents/guardians

You will be glad to know that Khushi Gupta, daughter of Shri Devendra Kumar Gupta and
Smt. Manisha Gupta, of class-XI, has been selected as a part of the Indian delegation of
25 students for the AIM-Sirius Deep Technology Learning and Innovation Programme for high
school at Sirius Centre, Sochi, Russia from 29th November to 5th December, 2019.

Khushi had participated in the Atal Innovation Marathon 2018-19 under the category Clean
Energy. She proposed a very innovative idea of utilising kinetic energy of rotating sprinklers
installed in farms for irrigation and converting it into electrical energy for a very novel cause for
helping farmers to get reduced electrical bills and uninterrupted power supply along with the
process of irrigation. Then with much efforts and hard work, Khushi created the fully functional
prototype. Khushi was driven by a strong sense of motivation by the ATL in-charge, Mrs. Mousami
Roy and her mentor, Mr. Dinesh Kumar Jawdekar and by the innovative environment provided by
the school’s Atal Tinkering Lab.

Initially the team members viz. Khushi Gupta, Kriti Tiwari and Shruti Sinha got selected among the
top 200 teams from all over India under AIM 2018-19 and won a golden chance to explain their
innovation to meet the Nobel Laureate Shri Kailash Satyarthi at a roundtable with ATL Innovators
organised by the Atal Innovation Mission, Niti Ayog, New Delhi at St.Thomas' Girls Sr. Sec. School,
Delhi on 13 September 2019

Khushi has showcased her innovation along with her mentor as a special invitee in the 5 days long
46th Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Maths and Environment Exhibition (JNN SMEE) in Raipur BTI
ground from 15th to 20th October, 2019 and received a National Certificate of Merit and C.G. kit.

Further, the prototype model developed by Khushi Gupta has been shortlisted for the wild card
entry into the National event of Avishkaar Makeathon which is scheduled to be held on 14 & 15
December 2019 at Thyagaraj Stadium, New Delhi. However, only the top 3 wild card entries which
receive the highest number of likes will be deemed eligible to have qualified for the National
event of the Avishkaar Makeathon. Hence, it is requested that you watch, like and comment on
the video regarding the innovation made by her, uploaded on Youtube. The link for the youtube
video is: https://youtu.be/DGtYs6-0cu4. It is a time bound task which requires to be completed by
Wednesday, 27 November 2019 to make it a success.

Your cooperation is highly solicited.

DPSB:RG:Parental Circular/19-20/23 15 November 2019

Subject: Students commuting to school by two wheelers (both geared and non-geared) - Reg.

Dear parents/guardians

This has reference to our circular no. DPSB:RG:Parental Circular/17-18/15 dated 19 September 2017 on the subject.
Time and again we receive instructions from the district authorities about the school students using two wheelers
(both geared and non-geared). Please refer to point no. 30 in page no. 23 of the Almanac wherein it is clearly
mentioned that “Use of scooters/motor cycles is strictly prohibited”.

We regret to observe that inspite of repeated instructions not to do so, some of our students still commute to
school by two wheelers (both geared and non-geared) without a valid Driving License and also drive vehicles which
are beyond the permissible limit (50CC for non-geared vehicles) without helmets, thereby risking their lives. It may
not be out of place to mention here that we do not permit our students to come to school on scooters/motorcycles
and as such there is no question of permitting them to park such vehicles on the school campus.

In view of the above, we humbly seek your kind cooperation in ensuring that you do not let your ward drive
scooters/motorcycles beyond the permissible engine capacity which s/he is not legally authorized to.

CBSE FAQs on Two Levels of Mathematics

Q.1. What is the difference between the Standard Level and Basic Level of Mathematics in class X Board
examination to be held in 2020?
Ans: The existing Mathematics examination is the Standard Level Examination. Standard-Level and Basic-
level Question papers shall be based on the same syllabus. However the Standard-Level Mathematics
assesses higher Mathematical abilities compared to Basic-Level. Accordingly, the difficulty level of the
Mathematics - ‘Basic’ is less than that of Mathematics-‘Standard’.
Q.2. Are we increasing the burden on the child by introducing the concept of two Levels of Exams in
Mathematics?
Ans: No, because the option to pick either Level is with the student. Further, the syllabus prescribed by
CBSE will remain the same for both the levels.
Q.3. Will this lead to dilution of Mathematics syllabus/teaching?
Ans: No, the idea is to make the evaluation more students centric and reduce the pressure on the student
who doesn’t want to pursue Mathematics after class X.
Q.4. Can a student opt for both Standard Level and Basic Level Exams?
Ans: No. There is only one option, either Mathematics-Standard or Mathematics-Basic.
Q.5. To continue Mathematics as a subject in class XI/XII and further, which Level Exam does a student
need to pass?
Ans: Mathematics-Standard is to be passed at class X, for taking up Mathematics at Sr. Secondary level.
Q.6. If a student qualifies only the Mathematics-Basics in class X, can he/she opt for Mathematics in class
XI/XII?
Ans: No. If he/she intends to take Mathematics in class XI/XII, he/she has to pass Mathematics-Standard.
Q.7. If a student has registered for the Basic Level Exam but wishes to appear for the Standard Level after
declaration of result, can s/he do so?
Ans: Yes. S/he can appear in the Standard Level at the Compartment examination, if he/she wishes to do
so after passing the Basic Mathematics Examination.
Q.8. How I can get the Sample Papers and Q.P designs of Standard Level and Basics level Mathematics
papers?
Ans: Sample papers and Blue Print based on the curriculum for 2019-20 will be made available on:
www.cbseacademic.nic.in, in due course of time.

DPSB:RG:Parental circular/19-20/09 06 July 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians

This is with regard to the wearing of leggings as a part of the uniform by girls. You all must remember the
epidemic of Dengue that had swept the twin cities of Durg-Bhilai last year during the rainy season. At that time
the DEO’s Office had issued instructions to all schools making leggings, full pants and full sleeved shirts
compulsory for students. When the DEO and other senior officials went around inspecting schools, the same
instructions were repeated and it was insisted upon, that leggings be made compulsory. Thus leggings came into
force and keeping the weather conditions in mind, leggings continued through the winter to offer protection
from the cold. Even for the smaller boys (Nursery onwards), full pants were made a part of the uniform - a
practice that came into force atleast four years earlier, to ensure that the little ones were protected against the
vagaries of the weather. However, leggings could be avoided in the months of March and April due to the
extreme temperature.

The dengue menace has not completely disappeared from the Durg-Bhilai twin cities - the dengue larvae have
survived the high temperatures of the summer season and people are falling prey to the disease with alarming
rapidity. Newspaper reports dated 03 July 2019 stated 3 new cases of dengue admitted for treatment. Keeping
this in mind the school authorities decided to make the wearing of leggings compulsory for girls.

However, it is extremely disheartening to note that this decision is being misrepresented and misinterpreted by a
few. Looking at the negative reactions, the school authorities have decided to make leggings optional and leave
the decision to the parents/guardians.

The school however, shall continue to work in the best interests of the stakeholders always!

DPSB:RG:Parental circular/19-20/01 (ATL) 01 April 2019

Dear parents/guardians

ACTIVITES/ACHIEVEMENTS RELATED TO ATL IN 2018-19

The Government of India has set up the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) at NITI Aayog. After identifying the
need, to create scientific temper and cultivate the spirit of curiosity and innovation among young minds, the
AIM proposed to support the establishment of a network of Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL). ATL is a
workshop where young minds give shape to their ideas through hands-on-do-it-yourself mode and learn
innovation skills. The vision is to cultivate 1 Million children in India as Neoteric Innovators.

With a view to provide a substantial boost to the Innovation ecosystem in Schools, NITI Aayog is establishing
Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) in schools under Atal Innovation Mission (AIM). We are pleased to inform
you that our school had established Atal Tinkering Laboratory in the month of April, 2018 at DPS, Risali. The
lab has been setup with an aim to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds and inculcate
skills such as design mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc. We have a
dedicated Facebook ATL account where all the proceedings of the ATL can be viewed. We also have an ATL
corner on the school website wherein all the details of the competitions and various updates are uploaded.

‘The Tinker Fest’ was successfully organized in which 17 teams got the opportunity to showcase their
innovative ideas. An ‘ATL Community Day’ was celebrated in our school in which the neighbouring schools of
the community were invited. Our ‘Mentor of Change’, Dr. Jawahar Surisetti, well-known psychologist and
educationist of international repute visited our school as a guest speaker on 28 August 2018. Dr. Surisetti in
his programme titled ‘Art of Thinking’, introduced the concept of ‘Thinking exercises’ and asked questions to
the audience which required them to think out of the box and provide solutions to the problems.

Asia’s largest technical festival called International ROBOVR-2018 Sports Championship was held at the
Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai on 15 & 16 December 2019. Four teams from our school participated
in the following categories: Tug of war, Musicians, Arm wrestling and Sumo wrestling. They were the winners
in the first three categories and runners-up in the fourth category. Mentor of Change, Dr. Jawahar Surisetti
appreciated the robots made by our students, when he visited the school.

Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog in collaboration with the Better India had launched the Innovation
Marathon 2018, a nationwide challenge, spanning across eight focus areas viz. Clean Energy, Water Resources,
Waste Management, Healthcare, Smart Mobility, Agri-tech, Agriculture & Design and Sustainable Development
goals. Nine teams from our school participated in the marathon and their videos have been uploaded in
Facebook under the Atal Innovation Mission, Niti Aayog. Two teams from amongst them are among the top
200 innovations in the Marathon 2018 in the field of Agri-Tech and Clean Energy. The students are Akshay
Issar (VI-C), Shikhar Dutta (VI-I), Sujal Sharma (VI-E), whose innovation was selected in the field of Agri-Tech
and Khushi Gupta (X-E), Shruti Sinha (X-D) and Kriti Tiwari (X-E) were the students, whose innovation was
selected in the field of Clean Energy. The top 200 innovations will get a chance to fine-tune their innovations
and lend it a final shape and form by 30th April 2019 to try and win a spot among the top 50, in order to be a
winner. Looking forward to successful innovations and happy tinkering.
