3 PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS:

3.1 Review and become familiar with entire procedure before beginning Calibration Process.

WARNING

Unless otherwise designated, and prior to beginning the Calibration Process,

ensure that all test equipment voltage and/or current outputs are set to zero (0)
or turned off, where applicable. Ensure that all equipment switches are set to
the proper position before making connections or applying power.

3.2 Connect test equipment to appropriate power source. Set all POWER switches to On and allow warm-up as
required by manufacturer.

3.3 Throughout this procedure set the TI functions as follows: Press TI right or left arrow key to move cursor on
display, press CHANGE key to set TI for selected function and then press ENTER key.

3.4 Refer to Appendix A for construction of Interconnect Cables if required.

3
T.O. 33K6-4-3011-1

3.5 Perform only that portion of the Calibration Process applicable to TI being calibrated.
3.6 Make copies of Table 3 to use as worksheets.

4 CALIBRATION PROCESS:

NOTE
Unless otherwise specified, verify the results of each test and take corrective
action whenever the test requirement is not met, before proceeding.

4.1 BALANCE MEASUREMENT CALIBRATION:

CAUTION

Before hooking up the Input Adapter Cable P/N 8998, verify that its polarity is
A=LOW(-) and B=HI(+). Some P/N 8998 cables may be reversed. If hooked up
backwards, and the 28 VDC Signal is applied, the screen on the TI will go dim.
The technician will have about 5 seconds to disconnect the power before damage
is done to the TI. Switch polarity for correct operation and apply power.

4.5.12 Fine tune Synthesized Function Generator (#1) AMPLITUDE for 100.00 mV rms as indicated on Digital
Multimeter.

4.5.13 Press TI BALANCE key.

4.5.14 Press TI SETUP key and set the TI as follows:

BALANCE FREQUENCY 100.0 <Hz> X 1

BALANCE TYPE <STROBEX> <MAN STOP>

4.5.15 Press TI START key (ignore TI STROBEX instructions).

4.5.16 Calculate required TI indication using the following formula:

⎜ 61.45 * (Cin + Cacc ) ⎞⎟
ips = 2 * Vin ⎜ ⎟
⎜ f * SQ ⎟
⎝ ⎠

Vin = 100 mV rms

Cin = recorded value from step 4.5.8 in pF

Cacc = 12,200 pF (For accelerometer #6222S-100A), 1350 pF (For

accelerometer #6233C-50)

f = 100 Hz

SQ = 100 pC/g (For accelerometer #6222S-100A), 50 pC/g (For

accelerometer #6233C-50)

Example:

Measured input capacitance from step 4.5.8: Cin=100400 pF

Amplitude and frequency from

Synthesized Function Generator: Vin =100 mV rms, f =100 Hz

SQ = 100 pC/g (For accelerometer #6222S-100A), 50 pC/g (For

accelerometer #6233C-50)

⎛ 61.45 * ( 100400 + 12200) ⎞⎟

ips = 2 * 0.100⎜⎜ ⎟ = 97.85 ips
⎝ 100 * 100 ⎠

4.5.17 Verify TI indication is within ±1% of value calculated in step 4.5.16.

4.5.18 Set Synthisized Function Generator outputs to minimum and disconnect test setup.
