Document Development Exposition: Instructions and Usability Test Script

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
 To begin planning I had to pick a topic. I chose a topic that I could explain in detail and give
specific instructions. It was difficult to choose something that I could provide detailed
instructions for. I found the cantaloupe topic to be a good choice. I had to plan the different
categories for the instructions. The categories came out to be planting, maintaining, and
harvesting.
 I had trouble with the design element of my instructions, but the peer review helped me.

First Draft (for peer editing)

 I typed my instructions according to my plan. I used three different sections to help break up
the information. It was difficult to find good images to use, but I searched online and found
relevant pictures. Once I had all the information, I edited the design elements of my
instructions to make it more visually pleasing.

Second Draft (for your packet)

 I was instructed on my peer review to add more color and use less white space. I agreed
with these suggestions and made the font on my headers green. I also took away some
white space to make it look neater.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

 In the final edits, I made sure that each instruction was a command, not a tip or suggestion.
This was difficult because most of my instructions turned out to be suggestions, so I had to
edit them to make them commands.
 I also took away images that were not relevant to the paper. I turned the instructions that
were tips into bullet points because I felt they were still relevant to my paper.
