Honesty is The Best Policy

Focus on the Topic.

1 We can see in the image that the man is in an
embarrassing situation since he lies about his
summary or CV by being exaggerated with his
functions. It's a funny picture because he is nervous
and knows he is lying and the recruiter doubts the
list of functions that he mentions in his summary,
but he still says he is proud.
It is normal for people to lie in their summaries
to show that they can do the tasks assigned by the
type of job they are applying for, but I don't
particularly know anyone in particular.

2 Not being honest or telling lies whether it is a

white lie or a small lie or half-truth, you are being
dishonest, every lie no matter how big or small it is,
is a lie and has its consequences and more when
looking for work. I personally only lie when they
ask me how I am.
3 Being honest in all aspects of life, such as at
work, in the social sphere, in relationships, with the
family is very important because that depends on
your credibility as a person.
Many people lie to look good with their friends or
family pretending what they are not real, but when it
becomes normal or common it could turn into a
disease called mythomania.

What are the reasons why people tell lies?

Sometimes it's to protect the liar from being punished

or to protect someone else from punishment.
The lie might be to avoid being embarrassed, to hide
an awkward situation, or to simply have others think
better of the person telling the fib.

People, by and large, are honest by default. Most

people tell the truth most of the time. Our very capacity
for language is built on an assumption of honesty. Lies
occur between those we love and trust as much as they
do with those we dislike, and even happens among
strangers.”
Describe nine of them, according to
Listening 1 pages 28-29
1 To avoid being punished
2 To obtain a reward not otherwise readily
obtainable
3 To protect another person from being punished
4 To protect oneself from the threat of physical
harm.
5 To win the admiration of others
6 To get out of an awkward social situation
7 To avoid embarrassment
8 To maintain privacy without notifying others of
that intention
9 To exercise power over others by controlling the
information the target has

What do you think the consequences of

lying are? Provide a long answer.

Lying has its benefits. It allows people to feel better

about themselves, to make themselves look better in
others’ eyes, and to maintain good relationships. At the
same time, lying can also create problems. Lying can
be cognitively depleting, it can increase the risk that
people will be punished.
it can threaten people’s self-worth by preventing
them from seeing themselves as “good” people, and it
can generally erode trust in society.

Because lying can create problems for the liar and

be honest allows people to feel good about
themselves, most of us tell the truth in most of our
interactions. When we decide to lie, we privilege some
other value over honesty. The value is often
compassion, as people lie more about their feelings
than about anything else. When people misrepresent
how positively they feel about another person or
something dear to another person, they build a
connection with that person and avoid hurting that
person’s feelings, those who tell prosocial lies are often
viewed as more trustworthy and more moral than are
people who tell harsh truths. Moreover, these prosocial
lies let us form larger social networks than we could
otherwise maintain. In contrast, lies not motivated by
compassion constrain the size of social networks.
