Brief Overview

This learning material is about the Orientation of Single National Curriculum and what
comes under English Single National Curriculum (ESLSNC). This learning material aims to
provide an initial introduction for teachers from all sectors (public, private and madrassah
system) in Pakistan on how to engage with the successful implementation of ELSNC 2020 in
their respective context.

The SNC EL -2020 prioritizes a focus on the:


 development of oral communication skills (listening and speaking) in the target language
 development of reading and thinking skills in the target language
 development of a demonstrable understanding of the formal and lexical aspects of the
target language
 development of writing skills
 appropriate ethical and social development
 fostering of reasoning, problem solving, critical thinking and creative skills for engaging
in and with the target language
 the development of teachers’ demonstrable understanding of the nature of: language
learning, the consequent need to teach the target language sub- skills in spiral progression;
and the implications regarding assessment tools, mechanisms and practices”.

EL Teacher Training Day 1 Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the day you will be able to:

 Demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of what, why and how of a language
curriculum/programme
 Identify the key features of SNC (Single National Curriculum) for English Language
 Explicate links between teacher enactment of the SNC and teachers’ own understanding
of teaching and learning
 Analyze and evaluate links between SNC for English Language and New Model
Textbooks

Remember
 Participants’ understanding will be checked based on the previous day’s
learning.
 Participants will have to read all the resource material and watch videos
carefully to respond to Checking for Understanding sections.
 Participants may be asked by their Master Trainer to share their
input/feedback on certain activities in a WhatsApp group created for
Single National Curriculum Training.
 Participants will complete Self-Assessment section at the end of every
unit in order to move to the next unit.
 Participants will be able to respond to the questions about reading
material and videos when they concentrate.
 The links of additional resources are also given therefore; participants
may consult them for better understanding of the concepts.
 Learning never ends when we are keen to learn something new all the
time.
