Mereside Mail
Issue 74 Week Ending 25th March 2011

It is with mixed feelings that I am letting you know that Mrs Stout will
be retiring in the Summer Term – mixed because we will all miss her but
pleased for her that she can spend some time relaxing instead of working
so hard! The School Council helped us with the interviews for her
replacement last week and I’m pleased to tell you that Miss Sarah
Coldbeck will be our new Deputy Head from September. Miss Coldbeck is
currently working closely with us as our Local Authority Consultant so she
knows the school and many of the children very well. We will be in touch
nearer the time to let you know about plans to celebrate Mrs Stout’s time
at Mereside, which you will be welcome to join us for

Text message – we sent out our first text message just before
Parents Evening. If you didn’t receive it can you please check
with the School Office that we have your correct mobile
number.

Attendance figures for each class for last half term

Reception 94.2% 1M 91.6%
2B 92.3% 3D 93.9%
4O 94.1% 5T 95.5%
6S 93% 6H 93.5%
Well done to 5T!
We are aiming for 95% for the whole school – as of February half term we are on 93.5% but it’s not too late to bring
that figure up. Please try and avoid taking holidays in term-time as they still count as absences even if authorised!

Junior Ambassador 2011

We are very proud that two of our children, Bethany Stableford and
Drew Townson, have been nominated for Blackpool Junior Ambassador
2011. You can vote for them by text: Text ‘Vote JA’ followed by S10 for
Bethany or S11 for Drew, to 07775 008 018; or online at
www.rubothered.co.uk ; or in person at any library or
the Children’s Centre.
Bike It
Well done to Kelis Sharples and George Townson who were the lucky winners last week of the prize draw for children
coming to school by bike. We are currently 348th in England but 2nd in Blackpool! If you would like further
information, please visit our school blog on www.meresideblog.wordpress.com

Gardening Club
Now the weather is warming up the Golden Time Gardening
Club is running again on a Friday afternoon, led by Mr Sale,
Mrs Herrington and Mrs Wells. If you would like to help, let
us know; it is on for an hour between 2pm and 3pm unless it’s raining. We
want to win Blackpool in Bloom again this year so any donations of seeds
or plants will be gratefully accepted.

Easter Events coming up – all parents welcome

Easter Bonnet Competition and Parade for Nursery, Reception, Y1 and Y2

Holiday clubs
You may be aware that Blackpool Council can no longer fund the Summer
Playscheme. We know how much the children enjoy the scheme and so we
are working with the organisers of the Playscheme and Blackpool Football
Club to arrange a replacement Holiday Club. The plan is that it would run
during other holidays as well, not just in the Summer. However we need
volunteers to help run activities. If you are interested and willing to give
up some of your time – maybe just one or two days in some of the holiday
weeks – then please fill in and return the slip below to the School Office.
