3. Instruction- learning Process-

Create a detailed outline explaining the multicultural activity following the teaching design

below:

● Do First: (10 minutes.) Students will start the lesson by filling out the first two sections of

a K-W-L chart in a whole group setting. They will identify what they know about Native

Americans, as well as what they want to know.

together by the teacher on Native Americans.

have learned throughout the mini lesson.

● Independent Practice: (10 min.) Students will then write a paragraph combining all that

they had known as well as what they have learned on a separate piece of paper, using the

K-W-L chart as a tool.

5. Reflection: Evaluate your multicultural lesson activity.

● What specific subject concepts, skills were taught.?

The subject concepts and skills that students were taught in this lesson meet the 5th grade

social studies standard in Nevada. The standard it meets is SS.5.14. Analyze the way in

which Native, European, and African cultures were impacted by conflict and compromise

in our nation’s early history. By showing the students the culture as well as important

events to Native American culture, students are able to identify some conflicts and

compromises made for and by the Native American people.

● What specific multicultural knowledge, skills were achieved?

I believe this lesson helped students to better understand a culture different from their

own. I also believe that this lesson helped to teach the students that there is beauty in the

way that other cultures may be different. I also believe this lesson helped to show the

students that it wasn’t easy for Native Americans in the beginning of our nation's early

history.

● List the strengths and weaknesses of the lesson plan

○ Strengths

■ The videos shared helped to show the beauty and the differences in the

Native American culture.

■ I believe that by having the students fill out a K-W-L chart it not only

provides them with a tool for the lesson but also a better organized view of

their understanding before the lesson, as well as what they have taken

away from it.

■ I believe that having the whole group aspect of the lesson helps students to

be more actively involved, not only within the lesson but also with each
other. Hearing what others know or learned from the lesson may also help

to broaden the student's outlook.

○ Weaknesses

■ Though the lesson supports the standard it is only themed around one of

the cultures stated by the standard, another few lessons will need to be

conducted to meet the entire standard.

■ The time limit was difficult to maneuver through. I think if I would have

been provided with more time to conduct the lesson I could provide

students with more content.
