Advocacy

The current initiative that I find to be the most important issue for today when it comes to

dealing with drug and substance abuse and addiction is increasing the number f bodies that could

engage in advocacy of addiction. I feel there should be more bodies either registered professional

bodies or just Christian entities that have proven sufficiently able to conduct advocacy of

addiction. Such bodies nod entities should be in a position to create awareness on the effects of

addiction while offering chances of rehabilitation for most addicts. Additionally, the body should

work to educate people on strategic means of avoiding such instances of addiction to enable

them to stay away from drug and substance abuse.

The current issue that I would like to see advocated and changed in the addiction

profession is the use of insurance by such bodies as this would enable the clients to obtain

treatment with much ease. Also, there need to be ethical regulations that govern the operations of

the bodies that conduct advocacy, the ethical rules mad regulations should work to ensure the

protection of the rights of the client. The counselors should also be protected against unruly

clients who might pose danger to themselves and the clients as well.

There are so many ways I would get involved as a change agent for addiction and mental

health as a professional. One I would engage in the legislation and creation of ethical laws and

regulations that ensure standardized operations. The creation of standardized operations would

ensure a uniform way of operation which would, in turn, make it easy for evaluation and quality

improvement. The creation of regulations would also ensure the protection of both client and

counselor rights, hence maintaining professionalism and ensuring the client obtains optimum and

effective care. Regulations are very important guides in the way of operations within a

professional body and protection of both parties.
