Animal Protection in United Kingdom

United Kingdom was the first country, which typified animal abuse as crime to

beginning of century XX. The British Wild Mammal Protection of 1925 punishes the

abuse and stablished that for the welfare of animals the trainings and exhibitions

requires that trainers and exhibitors to be registered with the local authority. Under

this law, the police and local officers, which may include a vet, have the power of

check the welfare of animals. Currently its legislation recognized five basic

freedoms of the animals, guaranteeing their food, comfort health and wellbeing.

Comparison

United Kingdom and Ecuador have a penalty for the animal abuse, the animal

abuse is punishable with a fine and seven month of imprisonment, while that in

Ecuador the deprivation penalty of freedom is of 3 or 7 days. In Ecuador is

considered that dogs y cats are closer of humans, for this reason there are more

protection proposals to them. As well in United Kingdom, there are codes for the

welfare of dogs and cats, by other hand, there include horses and privately no

human’s primates.

In Ecuador, an activist Veronica Boguña of the foundation Animal Rescue

Operation is against selling animals, said to El Telégrafo (2013) “The animals are

in tanks, in hot weather, standing and lying in their own waste, and it’s all for a

business, to make a profit. Young animals should be with their mothers.” Although

Reflection

Something interesting about the Animal Protection in the United Kingdom is that

was the first country, that created an animal legislation welfare to protect pets. The

difference between both is because before colonization in America, the Europeans

were closer to pets, and here had not pet any, currently in Ecuador there is still

empty spaces with regarding animal rights that leads to the awareness of animal

damage. If British came to Ecuador, they would find weird the large number of

dogs and cats in the streets.
