DPR INSPECTION
1. RELEVANT MODELS:
2008 thru 2010 J05 and J08 engines

2. PROCEDURES / INSPECTION:
Inspection to determine need of DPR replacement.
• Soot in tailpipe (any soot whatsoever is not allowable in tailpipe)
• Remove DPR disassemble and inspect.
• Replace center section, clean tail pipe, and reassemble DPR
• Replace temp sensors and reinstall DPR
• Perform manual regeneration
a) Tailpipe should be clean. There may be some rust or road grime, if soot is evident
then DPR must be inspected.

b) If soot has been detected in

c) Disassemble center section of DPR and Inspect both INLET and OUTLET of DPR.

Below are examples of DPR’s that would need replacement ranging from early to more
advanced stages of substrate failure.

ENGINE TECH TIPS

Example of a DPR INLET loaded

soot and coagulated oily soot.
This DPR needs to be replaced
regardless of how the
outlet looks.

Example of a normal DPR INLET

that would NOT NEED replacement.

The inlet grid will be black in color

with little-no soot build-up.

Example of a normal DPR OUTLET

that would NOT NEED replacement.
