E Description

Engagement Starting off the lesson, students will walk into the room and answer the two
bellringer questions written on the board that they will answer on their bellringer
sheet:

1) What do you know about the Scientific Revolution?
2) What do you think the Age of Enlightenment is about?
These two photos will be projected on the board as well:

The students will be given 3 minutes to think about these questions, and then
another 3 minutes to talk to classmates nearby about what they wrote.
After time is up, we will have a class discussion about each of these questions.
Students will raise their hand to give their answers.

Engagement The bellringer questions and discussion will serve as a formative assessment
Assessment for students to gage their prior knowledge before diving into the lesson.

Exploration After going over the bellringer, students will watch two videos, one about the
Scientific Revolution and another on the Enlightenment.

Exploration This activity is introducing the topics of the Scientific Revolution as well the
Assessment Enlightenment. Students will be introduced to key thinkers and ideals from both
eras. After the videos, there will be a discussion to go over the questions:
1) What do YOU think was the biggest impact of the Scientific Revolution?
Why?
2) Which Enlightenment thinker do YOU think played the biggest role in forming
the US government? Why?

Explanation Before going into the students’ project, I will clear up any confusion about the
Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment. I will also make sure that students get
the name and ideals/inventions from the key figures during both time periods.

Explanation This will be another formative assessment where discussion takes place to

important contributions of the philosophers and the new discoveries.

Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment Presentations

Okay kiddos, it is your time to teach the class!


Each student will be teaching the class about one person from the Scientific
Revolution and the Enlightenment!
You will need to include:
➢ The name of your important figures with a picture
➢ Where they were from (include country and years lived)
➢ There contributions
➢ How they impacted society
○ Make sure your information is accurate

Students will need to create their own presentation for this assignment.
Students may use the following websites to create their presentation:
